My dh and I just purchased a motorhome and are about to embark on a year-long full-time adventure. We need reliable access to the internet, and are having datastorm one-touch installed (we're Mac users). I have NO previous experience with satellite service. My question is really basic - please forgive my ignorance, but I've been all over Ground Control's website trying to figure it out, and so far, no luck. When you sign up for service with Ground Control, you obviously have email accounts, and access to the web. Will I be able to post a simple webpage through them where freinds and family can keep up to date on our wanderings? My present ISP (for home based DSL) offers limited free web space for creation of such web pages, and I'm just wondering if Ground Control has anything similar. If not, I want to arrange for that another way (by joining mac.com or something). Thanks for input and suggestions. I can see from reading some of your posts that I'll be back with MANY questions once I actually start trying to use the service.

Aaron might want to jump in here but to the best of my knowledge, Ground Control does not furnish any web space with their service.

If you want cheap domain name hosting, I recomend ADDR.com for $10/mo. the you can have e-mail like yourname@yourdomain.com and since you own the domain name ($35/yr), you can keep your e-mail address and web site for years to come regardless of who your ISP/VAR is etc.

Also look at http://www.directnic.com - domains are only $15/year, including free E-mail and web forwarding and a variety of hosting options (free and fee-based).

There are many free ways to offer Friends and family links to a site where you can post your travels and photos. Look into getting a Blog as see if that will work for you. Also, MSN has a "community" that allows you to post as share this with friends. I do not believe that you have to join MSN, but I am not sure. Neither Ground Control nor Direcway have a "home" page offer as part of the service package.

I use www.blogger.com. They will host the blog free (but not picts). Or it will post to your own web host (and there you can put picts, of course). It is fairly turn-key, and if you are a little savey, you can customize it.
I use edigesthosting.com to host my site. Great people, and great support, a range of packages, subdomains etc.. Check them out (i do not get a commission!)
See my blog at my blog for reference. It uses blogger.com, publishing to my remote host at edigesthosting.com, using my domain name garryp.org.

Thank you all for your replies. Some great information/advice. I will let you all know what it takes to get a Mac to work with the datastorm equipment as soon as we're actually "out there". We take off Father's Day weekend. In the mean time, I'm trying to sort out all I can in advance - I'm sure I'll be making frequent stops at this board! Hopefully, you'll be patient with a member who is not - by any stretch of the imagination - a techie.
