I reactivated HughesNet 2 weeks ago and it's been working fine all this week as we traveled from TX to WI. Today, the antenna is pointed but I'm only getting a SS of ~50, it's usually around 80. Nothing in the way like trees, it's a clear shot. It's worked here for the past 10 years from the same place. I tried a Force Range, but still couldn't get past the Tx9. I did Antenna Pointing and passed ACP with a 64 after adjusting the skew by about -2.5 from the calculated value. Still stuck at Tx9. Force Range does nothing.

Yep, they're correct. As a last resort I did a Registration-Installer, gave it the zip code, passed ACP again, but it still is stuck at the Tx9. The receive SS is still around 50 which is not normal. Thankfully we have my Droid and FoxFi so we have 4G internet for now

I think I've found the problem. A closer look at where the dish is pointed shows it may be looking through the edge of some tree branches across the street. That tree has obviously grown some since we were last on this site. That would explain the low SS.
Our view angle is somewhat limited so we can't see any satellite to the east of about 180°. Our longitude is 88.9°W so can probably see 99W and 117W. If we can't change sites to a better one (probably not possible in the near future) then we'll have to change satellites, giving up 127W that has been so good for the past 6 years. Given the above limitations, does anyone know which satellites are presently available for HN7000S users and which would be the preferred one?

To close this story, I called RTC yesterday morning and requested a change to 99W. The web based system that Hughes set up for RTC was broken so RTC had to request HughesNet make the swap. The information was finally available this morning, 24 hours later, and I am now on 99W. I hope it gives us as good service as 127W did for the past 6 years.
I may have to tweak the skew again as I can only get a rate code of 256k 1/2 (TC.

Ned, We've been working with RTC since last Friday trying to change from 89W to 127W so we could have satellite in Alaska. They have been great, but even after we pass cross pol by manually tweaking the skew--we lose the lock on the satellite and are back to square one--non commissioned. Who did you work with at RTC? Leslie, I worked with Joe, he is very knowledgeable and patient. After being up for a while, we did get decommissioned and had to go through Registration - Installer again to recommission. Since then it's been fine.

I was going to tweak the skew this morning but can not get to the CP servers. I've tried Antenna Pointing and even Registration - Installer but never get offered the checkbox to run CP. I really would like to improve our rate code but without being able to access the CP server, I can't do any skew adjustments. Even Joe thought it was strange that the CP checkbox didn't show up, but since I'm online, we didn't pursue it further. Anybody know why I can't do a CP?

You never want to run the CP anyway so having the box not appear was a good thing. I just did a similar move to 99 and the box did not appear either.

Normally I wouldn't run CP but since I discovered the skew error last week, I wanted to see if I could improve it to get a better rate code. At least now I know I'm not the only one that can't run CP on 99 or have you found another way?

Thanks for the reply, Ned. We worked with Ram again at RTC this afternoon and are now successfully on 127W ready for Canada and Alaska. W.C. added a 2 1/4 extension to the BOW and used 3 inch bolts and spacers. Now we are getting TV on 101. We are so excited! Thanks again, Leslie

I don't know about Canada and Alaska, but 127W will be good in AK. Depending upon where your travels will take you in Canada, most of what would be considered the usual route through Canada will not have coverage from 127.
