Will the standard RV round roof mounted Wineguard dish get the HD signals if pointed to 110 or 119 using the HD receiver?

Or does it have to be the oval one to get HD signal?

Would like to know if it will work, before I go out and spend 3K for a new HD TV and HD Reciever.

Thanks

I think you will run into problems with LNB specs, since LNB's A, B and C each have different frequency specs. I have never had specific experience with this, so this is just an opinion.

I have been busy, sorry!
The round dish will work just fine at picking up the 101, 110 or 119 signal all the LNB's are the same. The problem could be with the receiver itself. IF you can get the receiver to pick up only one satellite, you will be able to get programming. The Dish Network receivers use a Check Switch with will tell the receiver what you are hooked up to. On the DirecTV receivers, you have to tell it what kind of satellite dish you are using. IF there is a selection in your receiver that shows "Round dish" it will assume that you are pointed at the 101 satellite. If you pick "oval Dish" with 2 heads, it will assume that you are seeing 101 and 119. If you pick "oval dish" with 3 heads it will assume you are pointing at 101, 110 and 119 and you will see signal strength screens for each satellite.
I THINK that you could select the 3 head antenna and as long as you know what channels are being broadcast on what satellite, you could point the antenna to the appropriate satellite and get what few channels are there. Remember that 101 has nearly all the non-HDTV channels and the few (10, I think) HD channels are split between 110 and 119.
Let us know how things work out.

Thanks for the replies.

Since I am on G4R I have the bird on the wire for DirecTV 101. And there is no other bird on the wire available for G4R for HDTV.

I also have the Winegard automatic dish on the RV. I was thinking I could point the Winegard dish to 110 or 119 or move it back and forth between them.

Run the cables from bird on wire & Winegard to a A/b switch and then to my one receiver. And then switch it to whatever Satellite I wanted.

I haven't really looked at the new DTV HDTV receivers to see if they have more then one cable input hook up. And I didn't know they had a built in program to pick what kind of a dish you had.

This will be my winter project. I have a 22" Wide-screen LCD now, but it is not HDTV compatible. But have seen a nice 30" LCD HDTV at Best Buy that I like.

I know SatMax5 has a bird on wire for HDTV for $395. But since I already have a extra dish. I hope that it will work without having to change satellites and buy the bird on wire.

If you want to do as you describe, you will want to run that second cable to an antenna switch and not to an A/B switch. This could be either one of the channel masters or a simple SW21 switch. This will take both signals and allow the receiver to "read" both satellites simultaneously and switch between them as necessary.

Thanks Bill

While I was searching for the SW21 switch.
I found this site and it says I can do the two dish hook up.

http://www.solidsignal.com/tech_faqs_01.asp

On my search the SW21 was from $10 to $30 on different sites.

For a update on my project using two different dish’s.

I bought a Samsung 32” HD LT-P326W LCD TV and a Samsung SIR-T360 HD DirecTV receiver.
Put both of them on a entertainment center across from couch.

I am on G4R with BOW Kit A for 101 satellite. And I also have a Winegard RM-9946 Automatic
dish for 101, 110 or 119 satellite. I hooked both Dish’s together with a SW21 switch(Made for
Dish Network), one line on 101 and the other line on 110. And the set up did not work. So I am
still reserching the problem.
Are the 3 LNBF below different from each other, or the same LNBF that works different?
LNBF Spec. For DTV
101 degreesW 110 degreesW 119 degreesW
(Sat A) (Sat C) (Sat B)
Input Frequency 12.2 ~ 12.7 GHz 12.6 ~ 12.7 GHz 12.5 ~ 12.7 GHz
Range
Output Frequency 950 ~1450 MHz 950 ~ 1150 MHz 1260 ~ 1450 MHz
Range
Polarization RHCP/LHCP LHCP RHCP/LHCP
LO Frequency 11.25 GHz 11.5416 GHz 11.25 GHz

Or is the SW21 switch made for Dish Network the wrong one to use?

What surprised me was when I called DTV to turn on the new receiver and have my old receiver
turned off, because I have no phone hook up(I only have a cell phone). Per their requirement to
have a phone hook up for two receivers.
The service person gave me a waiver for the required phone hook up. That may be because I
have never ordered any PPV services for several years 5+ and I have used their service since
the early 90’s. Cost $4.99 + tax a month for extra receiver.

And the new HD receiver when not broadcasting in full screen would make the picture smaller on
the CRT TV’s when sent to them. And I was afraid of getting burn in on them.

So I ran another cable from the duel LNB from Kit A to my old receiver. The old receiver feeds
my front above driver, bedroom, bathroom and outside compartment TV’s.

I didn’t sign up for DTV HD package. But I get 5 local channels off Air in HD. And since I have
the DNS from DTV. I get the additional E & W network feeds in HD for free(Channels 80-88).
And they are on 101(Fox HD has just one feed and is only on in prime time or specials in
daytime, MLB games etc.). Some programs are also broadcast in Dolby Digital 5.1 that go
through my surround sound system.

The programs on 110 & 119 in HD are extra pay ones. So I really don’t need to use the second
dish. I just wanted to see if I could get the two dish system to work, if I ever decide to sign up for
the HD package.

I get a great picture on the new TV even with the regular broadcast on DTV or off air.
