Just wondering if anyone else is having problems with their receivers? We are fulltimers and moved 60 miles last week. After setting up, couldn't get any signal for TV. Did the system check and the receiver failed. Long story - called and had new receiver sent. Received it today and darn if it didn't fail also! Is it us or the receivers? We've been setting up since Aug 05, so we are not new at it! Very frustrated right now. Oh yes, no problem getting internet reception. Any suggestions?

Are you sure you don't have a tree/building/hill in the way of the TV LNB. You can have a clear shot at the internet satellite and have something in the way of the TV LNB. I have a Datron TV dish and the MotoSat dish with a BOW and it is AMAZING visually how far off the two dishes are pointed.

We have a clear shot at the sky - nothing in the way. I don't know a lot about this stuff, but my feeling is that the receiver would not fail because there was a leaf blocking the signal. But, we have been in this situation - clear shot for internet and a street sign blocking the TV! We look close now.
FWIT: Both LNB's are on the same dish.
Normally we pull the TV signal in way before we can set the internet signal.
Thanks for the reply though.

Our receiver has been starting to act up as well, but in small ways. From what I've been reading , these tend to snowball on the R15, and you have a serious problem before long. However, it sounds as if your second one was bad out of the box, so I don't know that the two situations are similar. It's our internet connection that has been almost unusable again lately.

Dean, While it's not impossible for a new receiver to be bad out of the box it is unusual. Before calling for a new one... lets try checking a few things.
Grab a volt meter and check your wall plug to verify correct A/C voltage. Double check all connections at the rear of the receiver. Go to the Satellite test page on your receiver and check your signal strength.
If A/C is good, connections are tight and still no signal on the test page... lets try one more thing before heading to the roof. Leave the signal strength test page open on the TV receiver, take manual control of the dish and move the azimuth about 5 degrees in each direction. If this doesn't get you a signal then it's time to check things on the roof.
Check the position of the lnb on the offset bracket and make sure all mounting screws for the bracket and lnb are tight.
Remove and check the TV coax connections at the base of the DataStorm and also those at the lnb.
One final thing to try would be to run a known good piece of coax from the lnb through a window and connect to the receiver.
If you still haven't found the problem, it may be that your lnb is bad. There seems to be more instances of bad lnb's then receivers.
If you are parked at a location where someone has a tripod mounted dish, of the same type [DTV-Dish], you could ask them if they would mind if you checked your receiver with their dish.
The checks above will keep you busy for awhile but you should be able to figure out what component has failed.
Good luck... and let us know what you find.

My Hughes receiver also appeared to have failed last week. Several different locations were tried (without trees) but we were not able to get any channels on a guide and the receiver date would not re-set and continuously showed a January 5 date. After about 6 frustrating calls to Bangladesh the consensus was that the receiver had suddenly failed. Did all the normal reset stuff but nada. Of course the $49 replacement receivers are not the same size as my HNS unit and will require cabinet work to fit. One supervisor speculated that the access card was bad, but no "insert valid access card" message has appeared. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the reply. I failed to mention that our dish is a tri-pod mount, not on the roof. We tried everything you suggested except checking the current in the plug, but I have another item plugged in there right now and it works, so I guess that kinda checks it out. We disconnected the cables from the rig and ran a cable directly from the dish to the receiver through the door - nothing! The LNB on the dish is tight and when taking apart for travel we make sure it is in a location where it won't be bumped. The system test was run on both the old receiver and the new receiver and the receivers failed, but the LNB passed. We have another receiver on the way so time will tell. I'll get my DH to read your response in the AM to make sure that he has checked everything you suggested. Thanks,
Janice

When we did the system check the LNB showed as OK both times. This was done using the menu on the TV using the remote control for the receiver. I'm confused myself as I don't understand how this system check can check everything if the receiver is bad? But then I don't understand electronics except how to push a button - LOL.

Well, we received the second replacement receiver and still no signal! Was told it probably is the LNB. What do I know!!! We will not mess with it until we get someplace where we are going to be for awhile, then probably look for a technician. Guess that will run some $$$! Thanks for all the advice.

Dean & Janice, lnb's are cheep. If you only require a single output for your receiver you can always pick one up at walmart or Radio shack. I haven't checked in awhile but they may even have a dual out lnb's. You might also try flagging down a DTV installer working in the field and ask them for a replacement. I picked up a replacement from an installer last year... no charge. Good luck.
On edit... guess the price has gone up. Radio shack advertises a dual lnb for $49.99
