I see that some members are using custom pictures where the avatar images are in the message. Can anyone do this and if so, how?

You need to upload the image you want to use to the internet. If you don't have a location on the internet to store an avatar, you can use the photo section of this site. The image should be limited in size to about 80x100 pixels. Then click on "my profile" at the top of this page, then click on "edit profile". Scroll down to Avatar Image and select the URL for the image.
Let us know if you have problems. I bet we can solve them.

Adding a photo into a post is fairly easy. Again, you must first post your photo on the internet. If you don't have another location to post the photo, the photo section of this site will work. Size the photo to a maximum of about 400x600 pixels prior to uploading it to the internet. Once you have the photo on the internet, begin the post and hit the "enter" key then type in (img) replacing the ( with [ and the ) with ]. Then type in the URL of the photo, such as http: //www.xyz.com/ xxxx.jpg but without the spaces in it, then (/img) again replacing the parentheses with brackets. Click on the Preview Post to make sure it is working before you hit Add Reply.

Michael I selected one from my photos here on DS and entered the URL and get a square block with a white diagonal line through it. No picture. So what am I doing wrong?

Most commonly it is because of a bad URL. You can't use the URL of the page in the album where the image is shown - you have to right-click the image, then look at its properties to find the "real" URL.
If that is the photo you want to use, I would suggest making it smaller. It is currently about 242 pixels wide and I would suggest that you stay under 100. For example, Don's Avatar above is 100 x 100.

You may want to crop the image and resize it for your avatar. Perhaps one of these would work for you.
If it looks okay, you can right click on the one you like and save it to your computer, then upload to your picture album on the forum and follow Michael's instructions for using it.

Alright all of you guyz. Thank you very much. It worked. That avatar is our house on our lot 756 at Gulf Waters RV Resort. If you are ever in that area pound on the side of the motorhome and introduce yourself. We are usually there from Jan to May and sometimes in Aug Sept and Oct. Thanks again.

I changed my Avatar but the avatar never changed on my previous postings. I take it, posting Avatar's are not updated when the avatar is changed. A
