Hey Jack! I was just thinking about you and your lovely bride (and Bitsy) as I just came upon a piece of history I thought I had lost. I hope you don't mind but I will post it here for all to enjoy!
Hi Bill and Janet; I just had to tell ya'll of this morning's activities. I'm in Orlando, FL and it's 95 degrees here. If the humidity is not 100% it's missing a real good chance. This morning, around 9am, I took Bitsy for a walk and noticed that a motor home had pulled in across the street from me late yesterday evening. As I was walking by, the owner had a piece of plywood about 2 feet square and looked to be about 1 inch thick with a short metal post attached in the middle of it. As Bitsy and I finished our walk and were walking by that motor home again I saw that the guy had 2 concrete blocks on the plywood and was sitting his Direcway antenna on the pole. Did I mention it's really hot and humid? I put Bitsy inside my motor home where the temp is 70 degrees. I then went to the Post Office and grocery store. I was gone about two hours. As I was unloading my groceries I noticed that the guy across the street was sitting on a very nice low stool in back of his Direcway antenna, which is about a foot off the ground, looking at the sky and then making adjustments. Did I mention that it's hot and humid? After I put my groceries up and walked Bitsy again I came back inside, where it's still 70 degrees, and turned on my computer. I deployed my DataStorm and 8 minutes later I was on-line. Did I mention that it's 70 degrees inside my motor home? Just for giggles and grins I looked out the window. My neighbor across the street is still sitting on his stool, looking at the sky. I did say that it's hot and humid outside didn't I? I'll bet that glass of water he's drinking tastes good. Yes, he's still on his stool and it's starting to rain. It's too bad I don't have a video camera, I'd love to tape him, that would be a great sales aid for DataStorm. Guess I'd better close, I think I'll put on a sweater since I'm a little cold in here....lol Thought ya'll would like to know about my neighbor. I sure do like my DataStorm. Jack

Thanks for posting this. Sure wish you DID have a video of this episode. Just make sure you can get a temperature/humidity gauge and time stamp if you ever do a video.
Hope you don't mind, but I want to forward this story on to Motosat Sales Department!

I've never seemed to get any pleasure seeing another person sweat. I have seen some folks using a tripod mount arrive, deploy their tripod, and be back in their coach in 15 minutes. I've also watched folks spend hours trying to point a tv dish for directv or dishtv. If I have the tools, meters, etc., on board, I usually offer assistance. I work on the premise that the person on the other end could be me.
As far as the tripod Direcway user, I always have to remind myself that the installation he has cost about 4 to 5 thousand dollars less than mine. Each has it's advantage.
I wouldn't trade my motosat, but I think with a little practice, I could set up a manual mount fairly efficiently, and I wouldn't have to always avoid the really cool, shaded campsites.

Why avoid them. Buy a used dish off ebay and set up a tripod for those times you just have to be in the trees. I still look for the open sites if I can find one. I don't like setting the tripod up. But I need to be online so I have my bases covered.

Good point. I just happen to have a spare dish, and it would not take much to provide external cable connections. We've done that for years with the DirecTV tripod.
I need to be online, also, and we've even driven by some really nice parks because they had too many trees...Just need a little more space to carry one more thing...that may be the only problem to solve.

That is a problem. But we have to do what it takes to get online for business so we make room.

Hi, We definitely would buy and reinstall DataStorm/MotoSat system. In fact, we plan to switch our unit over to our new 2007 Monaco Camelot motorhome. We have had ours for 3 years and are still using Ground Control’s One Touch NAP with 4000 vintage modems and we receive better speeds than most of the folks who comment on speed on this forum. At our present RV park people sit around the office with their lap tops on their knees trying to use the not secure wi fi park system. We are on G4R, which is soon to be replaced by G16, I think, and daytime speeds are slow but evening speeds are fine. This is all due to the great help from members of this forum.

We have had to use WiFi the last two trips we took 'cause we stayed in condos instead of taking our trailer. Can't wait to get back to the trailer mode and our D3/7000 setup! Argh! I would go nuts if we had to use WiFi all the time! Slow and undependable in both places. We can use the WiFi hook-up on one side of the condo but not the other. I'm tellin' ya . . .!

Yes and No: The system does work great, but I was going to purchase "other" system. But still not sure of product being released yet. You have to have some computer/networking knowledge to run the MotoSat system at times. Too many "devices" in the system design. This has to talk to that and to this and so on. It should be more simple to use and set up.

True but if you started with say the 4000/ D1 controller. Those were the days when "tinkering" really took place. Especially if you were running like Windows 98. 2 or sometimes 3 pieces of software required to run the system, installed on your computer. Datastorm software DW Software and if you didnt have a serial port only a USB you needed the USB drivers for the Radio Shack USB/Serial adapter. And then if you needed to recommision your 4000 modems you had to find a phone line, sometimes pull the modems out of the coach and goto to a copper line to dial an 800 # It has come a long way and anybody on here im sure can attest to the minor inadeqacys of todays unit. Don? Bill? what do you think?

I don't think that the systems currently available to customers (F1, F2, F3 and the X versions) that are operating with D3 controllers and the standard (Linksys) router and setup are having any issues that would take any kind of computer/networking knowledge. As a matter of fact, my biggest nightmare is a customer who says "you won't have to worry about me, I know all about...(pick one) networking, routers, computers, IP addresses, Windows, Mac's, PC's, whatever! You do need a dealer who is responsive and knowledgeable so that on that rare occasion when things don't go as planned you have a direct line and a quick answer. Otherwise, it's all good!

In my travels I have used a number of park Wi-Fi systems, some actually worked well, some did not some I could not even connect to reliably. Some were dial up based, Some Datastorm based (Yup, one park actually had a datastorm) some DSL or Cable based One park my Hughes dish would not work at had good Wi-Fi though.
The Hughes dish, Well, as noted, at ONE park I was unable to use it (Radar Detector interference we believe) however everywhere else it works fine, Parks where my cell says "Good luck sucker" (no signal) the Hughs dish works fine, DSL out (heck power out) cable out, the Hughes dish works fine.
Another issue with park Wi-Fi is number of users Where I'm at now I've seen park Wi-Fi speeds drop a lot as more and more folks log on, they have a Vorizion wireless business plan, it's sattalite based (Wonder if they lease from Hughes) having myown means a much sweeter connection and fewer drop outs. (I have several problems using the park system that go away when I lock on with my own)
Advantage of vorizon over hughes: No set up time Disadvantage: Coverage is less than 100% (less than 90 %) High speed coverage is less than 50% (Way less)
Advantage of Hughes over Vorizion: Coverage, coverage, coverage (Coverage roughly equals that area best described by the term "Above Ground" (don't work well, or at all for that matter, in caves, but then neither does Vorizon save a few man made caves)
Disadvantage... I have to spend a bit of time setting up some bulky hardware every time I park and want to use it (multiple uses per park no set up time)
You'll have to wait a day or so for Don to "chime-in" as he is without internet service for a day or two. Having motorhome inside a shop without access to the bird has to be very frustrating to him and to top it off no wi-fi either.
As a user, I have to say that back in the days of old (just two years ago) when I had my 4000/D1/F1 I was so confused that everytime someone even "hinted" about a software update I would quiver!
Along came the D2/6000/F3 and life got much better and I was a lot more comfortable...now I'm in 7th heaven with my 7000/D3/XF2. Did a firmware update on the D3 recently and wasn't even the slightest bit anxious. (And anyone that knows FIRMWARE updates, knows this is far more critical than a software update, and those went out when I got rid of the 4000).
