Have been out of the loop for a while, and am a little concerned that inexpensive portable systems may not be an option much longer. Is this true? What advise would one give someone wanting to explore inexpensive (manual) systems?

Thanks all!

i beleive there still many many tripod users and systems out there. i don't see that becoming a thing of the past any time in the near future. many people cannot justify the cost of the automated systems, especially those who do not move frequently.

There is no reason to believe that the tripod users should be any more concerned about the ongoing Hughes service than those that use an automatic antenna. Hughes service is just that "service". There is nothing illegal or unsavory about using the Hughes service with a tripod vs. an automatic so that's not an issue either. The only possible issue is that there are less and less tripod dealers out there, but the ones that remain were the ones who knew what they were doing and the recent pull back has done nothing more than cull out some of the fly-by-night dealers.

Conversation in other forums give me no indication that tripods are on the way out.

Also consider that some dealers and installers have "pulled back" due to the slowdown in our economy. We have only sold 2 trypod systems in the last 14 months.
