GReetings DataStorm Users,
The footprint of IA8 "looks" great for my purposes, although I realize it is not deadly accurate yet. My question is; can a DW4000/D1 with .74 Meter dish (VAR is GC) currently on SatMex 5 be switched over to IA8 or does it require upgraded hardware versions for that satellite? My attempts to search for this info in other threads has not yielded anything so far. Thanks for responding.

IA8 is only available for 7000 modem users. Currently the only satellites available for 4000 users is G11 (91W), SM5 (117W) and G3C (95W).

Current new 6000 fixed-dish installs also go to IA8, but there are no transponders on it compatible with a 4000.

OK, thanks Bill and Don. Now I just wait for the 4000 and D1 to die and then rationalize the upgrade. When that happens (hopefully not too soon), I am going to track down Bill for the install !! Thanks again gents.

Why wait? We're tracking Bill and Janet down after the first of the year to upgrade from D1/4000s to D3/7000 (that's it, right Bill? :-), and we've only had our system for 13 months. B&J installed that one, too, but we have to go wireless according to Oldtymr. Besides, it gives us an excuse to spend more time with B&J. Sure enjoyed being around them this week in Kerrville. Super fun people and the bestest when it comes to installs.

BTW Dave, you wouldn't happen to be related to a Tony Makepeace would you? Unique name.

Hi Geri, Sorry, no relation to Tony Makepeace. It is an unusual name, but I sometimes find one or two in the larger cities when I check. It is english in origin.
As for the upgrade, I have found with most electronic stuff, it is best to let the "latest and greatest" become the "old reliable" and then buy and enjoy it. Cutting edge is an expensive place to be. Loads of fun, but lots of $$$ and lots of headaches.

English, huh? That's interesting.

Yep, cutting edge may cause headaches. That's why we're waiting 'til after the first of the year. We do agree on one thing, though. We'll be looking for Bill and Janet to do the install on our systems.

I'm on G4R right now with 4000 modems, just got on less than a week ago.

Just curious as to why you have to go wireless? I am not wireless on the 7000.
