I have been RVing for 30 years and I am computer literate, and this is the *first* I ever heard of this service, and is amazing to me how you can see where people are presently.
In fact I have NO idea how I even got to the DatastormUser site! but my oh my, am I glad I did!
This is all amazing. A few questions are now in order, as you can imagine.
1. How do I buy this system and where can I learn the basic options available? 2. I travel from Canada to Mexico in pursuit of either fish (fly fishing) or bird watching nowadays still over my English Setters, so I will need a system for Internet (e-mail) while on the road (6-7 month out of the year) and maybe phone service. 3. I have a PC etc in my rig, which I assume is a must.
What system would you all recommend?
Thanks in advance and glad to stumble into your world.
Fred

Customer service and satisfaction are the key ingredients in these systems. You will not find more supportive and professional installers than Bill and Janet Adams of InternetAnywhere.US Check out their website: http://www.internetanywhere.us They installed our original system 15 months ago and have just done an upgrade for us to the wireless version. The system is awesome and the Adams team is even better than that! Here is one of the strings on this site recommending Bill and Janet (hope I got the address right - http://www.datastormusers.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/ubb/get_topic/f/12/t/000063.html
Bill has always been there for us whenever we had questions or needed help. If you're going to spend the money to have a DataStorm system installed, don't let anyone else touch your coach. We won't!
Welcome to the wonderful world of mobile Internet access! It is, indeed, an exciting world to live in. I also consider myself a technophile and yet find myself constantly amazed at how wonderful this system is. It's hard to imagine being in an incredibly remote place (remote enough that there is no cell phone service - data, voice, or otherwise), yet with the push of a button we have access to the Internet and all of its wonderful information. It still verges on miraculous!
I will also second "Oldtymrs'" recommendation of Bill and Janet Adams. Go to their website, look things over, and then give them a call. They know their stuff, inside and out, and can help direct you to the best system for your needs. Then, let them do your install. It's the best thing you can do (after deciding to join the Datastorm world). They will get you setup with everything you need AND (most importantly) stand behind it. They are there whenever you need them with top-notch support.
Looking forward to seeing more of you online here.

Fred, Welcome! There is a tremendous amount of information available on this website. Click through the different topics and you will get a lot of good information and some that will confuse you. Don't let that concern you as everyone starts there. To try to answer some basic questions. 1) Buy from me I will teach you all you need to know and support you throughout the systems life. 2) The current service available for the Datastorm antenna is provided by the IA8 satellite. If you click up at the top of this page on Glossary and then IA8 you will see a "footprint" that shows the area that you can expect to get coverage. This includes the US and much of Canada and some of Mexico. There will be additional satellites opening up in time, but know one is currently sure of that schedule. 3) Yes, a computer is a must. That computer should also be capable of using a Wi-Fi connection so that you can use your computer where ever you choose. 4) The Datastorm is the automatic system of choice. It is more expensive than a manual tripod mounted antenna but has none of the hassles associated with assembling/storing/disassembling/pointing/staking, etc. You are welcome to call or drop me a line privately with any questions or post any and all questions here.

I have been busy (reading, reading and more reading) and slooowly getting the 'flic' since posting this and I also been to your site 'Internet Anywhere'. I will be contacting you soon with any left-over questions, choices and logistics.
The whole scene is just plain fantastic and the Internet for me is a Godsend during my solo travels and my only connection with 'civilization' till the wife finally joins me on them, which will be the very day my last child goes off to college (exactly 1112 days, 11 hrs, 32 minutes from now) - but who is counting? <rolls eyes>

On the other hand, if a $5,000 Datastorm is not your cup of tea, there are good folks here who will sell you a Tripod mounted antenna for $1500. It's not as convenient as a Datastorm but it works as well once setup. www.Dustyfoot.com regularly gets high marks from customers.
