I've been fighting this problem for over two years. Replaced my D3, had the UCB checked by motoSat, and recently replaced the elevation motor/counter. It appeared to have a broken counter but with new one I still got -65. Manually raised it a little with a 12V battery and then got it to calibrate. It then actually searched one time, but a week later when I needed to travel it almost stowed but then the elevation stalled -65 and had to use the 12V battery to get it all the way down.
Now even after using the 12V battery to raise the elevation up, it still will not search (-65), calibrate (-65) or manually try and raise it (again -65).
All the wiring is good, I recently put my 12V battery in parallel with the power coming into the D3 with no change. HELP as I've now replaced everything. [Help]

Something that was checked/repaired/replaced is now broken. You will need to start the trouble-shooting over again.

So you ALWAYS get the -65?
It now never works?
It is only in EL mode when it throws the -65?
Never while doing either AZ or SK?
How many turns out after bottoming the sensor?

Always for el (-65) and sk (-66). Will not calibrate error elev -65 plus there is not any indication of any current. When powering up it says Stow Dish -66. Counter changes from -1.4 to 143 when manually trying to move el. It did calibrate and then search one time after putting new motor/sensor but only after I elivated it some with a 12V battery.

Removed the 12V from the D3 and now the sk works. Added a 12V light to the elevation red/orange wires (9pin) and no indication of any voltage at any time... calibrate, search, elevate, or stow.

Please explain where the power is coming from to run the D3/F1

Dick,

The -65 indicates that the D3 'thinks' it is sending voltage to the motors. The -65 indicates that the D3 thinks the motors are not turning or in other words the D3 is not seeing the pulses (counts) back from the sensor so it stops sending voltage.

It does not surprise me that a lamp across the connection does not show voltage. I assume incandescent, which has a slow rise time. You might see a flicker with a 12-volt LED arrangement.

The D3 uses PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation) so there is no linear voltage present.

There are likely other impedance factors at work as well.

Interesting question John. What exactly do you mean? Wouldn't everyone be getting their power from the MotoSAT power supply?

I'm using a led light. The 12V is comming from the MotoSat power converter plus I added a 12V battery in parallel with it, but no change. I removed the 12V in as a way of resetting the D3 instead of just turning it off. Why this made the sk start working has me confused too. When trying to calibrate there is not an indication of current on the window that comes up as it tries to calibrate unlike the one time it did a complete calibration.
