Is there anyway to schedule windows update to download during the fap free time? It shows that you can install at a certain time, but doesn't say it downloads during that time.
I just restored my computer and have over 700 MB of updates to download. Any help would greatly appreciated.

I've seen this asked often, and so far have not seen a way to do it. Here's one suggestion:

Install hnFAP-Alert and set it to break the connection at a fairly high percentage of your available usage. Stay up to the beginning of the FAP-Free period and manuallly start your update downloads.

If they happen to run past the free time your connection will be broken and you won't be in FAP.

Mind that I haven't tried this method, but it should work.

The best way I found when I got a new W7 PC.
Was to set my alarm clock for 2AM.
After those 700 MB get downloaded and installed. They will probably be more downloads to update the ones that were just downloaded.

It took me more then one wake up to finish all my OS and program updates.

I believe the "Install Updates" at a specified time means to download and install. I've set up some computers to do that during the FAP free time and the downloads have always been at the specified time.

Thanks guys for all the help. I got all the updates, by staying up for a night. I've scheduled windows to update during fap free time. So we will see if it downloads and installs during that time.

It's a bit soon to know that as there have been no Windows updates released in the past 3 nights. The next patch Tuesday is Dec. 14 so see what happens that night or the next. Check the Installed Updates log on Thursday to see what was downloaded and installed.

I have 2 computers here that are set to check for updates nightly at 0200 and 0300 and they do download and install any time MS releases updates.
