OK, it appears that some phones are locked out of non-market apps (unless the phone is hacked/rooted).
So, since this is not likely my last App, and it will be a constant support issue, I paid for admission to the market.
I haven't figured out yet how to get a direct link to the app there so I can make a QR barcode. If you go to the market and hit search then type in dsanadroidmapsubmit it will take you there.
From the Home Position... Start the "Settings" wizard A long list of choices appears.... find and select APPLICATIONS. At the top... UNKNOWN SCOURCES... select that which will then display the green check mark.
If when done, you want to go back and allow only market (security ???) then follow the sequence again, and select the green check mark, which will "ungreen" it.... and all is back to normal.
Of course, now, the matter is sort of mute. Don has made the application available in the MARKET, and it is a free download.

My Samsung from AT&T does not have that choice . It has MANAGE APPLICATIONS under that as subs is all the installed programs that is rmovable. Next is RUNNING SERVICES that has those items that are running mostly services. Then comes DEVELOPMENT usb debugging, Stay awake and Allow mock locations. I thought that might work but it did not Then finally is USB SETTINGS that is where you can access the mass storage, media player etc.
Must be the brand makes it different.
Any way I installed the program from the market place and it worked just fine I am approx block and a half east of the coordinates shown but really close North and South.
Next will be to get the latest bar code scanner.

I did find a method of installing non market programs. But it entails a process similar to Jail Breaking that is done on the iPhone. I prefer to keep mine as it came from the AT&T store.

Yes, that was what I referred to when I said that the phone had to be hacked/rooted. I'm not interested in doing that with my own phone, and I certainly couldn't recommend that someone else do it to theirs!

I received an update notice for the app from the market yesterday and it updated without any problems. Can you enable it to run from the SD card? Automatic updates? We don't want much

Only some of my apps offer automatic updating so I think it's a setting in the app itself.
