I just upgraded to 3.9.4 successfully. I am just hearing sat tables and sat table updates for the first time now. What are they, do I need to update them?

Absolutely! Drop me an e-mail and I will send you a copy or you can copy and paste the list from this site in the Reference Material topic.
Just use the Import/Export function from the D3 screen and reboot the D3 after you are done.

First I have heard of this. I saw the posts on Sat Tables, but thought it was for Hughesnet only.

I did a G-75 over the weekend and she was definitely wandering a bit before locking on. I updated the sat tables and she was locking on in under 4 min. Like Bill says go for it. Very easy to do.

To be clear about Sat Tables:

These are a critical part of how the D3 finds satellites. Nothing specific to Hughes, iDirect; it can affect them all.

Satellite operators change parameters as customer requirements dictate for particular transponders, and they do not publish such changes. This leads to three separate problems.

The first and most critical is when a table-referenced satellite changes, and that's the satellite you are trying to point to. When that happens your D3 will never find the satellite and will search forever.

The second occurs when a change occurs on a satellite near your own. If your dish stops on that satellite a great deal of time will be spent trying, and failing, to identify before finally saying "Signal Unknown" and moving on.

The third also involves a change in parameters near your assigned bird, but is worse. If the change happens to match the parameters of another satellite in the table, the D3 will misidentify, and go off looking in the wrong part of the sky. It may eventually work itself back to where it needs to be, but it can be a very long process.

Satellite changes have been fairly frequent in the past few months. A lot of that is because many of the table references are to Hughes transponders, and Hughes has been moving transponders to DVB-S2, which the D3 cannot read. That leads to problem number one for Hughes users, but it also affects others.

For example, the satellite with the most changes has been 99, and many of us here with iDirect are on 101, so 99 is a common first-hit during the search process.

There is no solution other than to check regularly for updated tables.

It would be awesome if the D3 could check for updates and offer to install them... or just install them.

Where do I go for the latest sat tables?
