I'm working with a new iDirect/Ethersat system and am experiencing a long time for the modem to go on-line. Typical time is 6~8 minutes AFTER the D3 reports search complete. Is this what others are seeing?

I haven't timed it, but it is long. I figure around 20 TX blinks is typical, sometimes a bit shorter, sometimes longer.

It seems like mine often takes that long, but I haven't actually timed it. I get the receive light pretty quick, but transmit lock takes quite a while.

Thanks guys, I thought something was wrong with the equipment. But it sounds like it is just 'normal' iDirect.

I'm using 3.9.4 on a 2 yr old XF3. Acquire time is very fast, maybe 2~3 minutes. Should I change?

The version to 3.9.5 or 6 for an XF3.

There are some changes in 3.9.5 related to the XF mounts so it might be worthwhile. I have not seen change logs on either of the 3.9.6 beta versions.

I don't think it'll matter. The mount is pointing just fine. It's the time it takes for the NOC to "turn on" the link that's the issue.

I may be mistaken but I believe those were meant to be 2 separate questions with the question about the update to 3.9.5 not intended to be associated with the question about the speed of the connection.

Yup, 2 questions. I remember hearing something about XF mounts and a newer version but MotoSat tech didn't know. It is working now so I'll leave it 3.9.4. with the new sat table.

I don't see how a newer version of firmware would/could change anything, when your acquire times are fine.

If the modem has been activated by the NOC, it shouldnt take 6mins+ to: gets its timeplan, unmute the transmitter, and acquire the network.

I would be very interested if the remote is truly activated (right away) by the NOC. If it is, then there is obviously something amiss. That TX LED is indicative of a few things:

- Your downstream SNR is conducive (5.5 or above) to unmute the transmitter on the idirect.
- The Remote customer has been activated by the NOC and sweep (Acquisition-ACQ) commands are being sent from the hub - to the remote.
- GPS input is being provided (unless operating fixed mode) to the iDirect...via telnet, or console.

Since the GPS input is being provided via telnet on your systems, I am thinking they are either slow in activating you (at the NOC), or there may be a logical hangup in the NMS/PPs that is preventing ACQ sweep commands from going out.

I know some of that may not make sense to some of you, but it will to the Motosat guys. Lets hope that they are just slow in activating you.

One other thought and Mike can correct me but if the initial startup power of the transmitter is too low, that can contribute to the long time to link in.

You referring to the Transmitter wattage?
