Below is the email blast that recently came out of MotoSAT where we chastised them for exposing many customer emails. Strange that the audience seemed to be selective. I didn't get overly excited when I read it and have yet to see any difference in my speeds.
Dear EtherSAT Customer:
This past November, MotoSAT and its EtherSAT broadband services partnered with EchoStar Satellite Services to create one of the most robust and reliable satellite-based networks for VSAT communications (see attached press release). As a result of this new long-term agreement with EchoStar, EtherSAT will now be able to provide the same broadband services you have enjoyed in the past, but on a fully redundant network of satellites and transponders, greatly improving the flexibility and reliability of the EtherSAT services. Customers will now be able to move between three different satellites and multiple transponders without any network changes.
In an effort to maintain our leading position in this marketplace, MotoSAT will be restructuring the EtherSAT services packages. This restructuring will result in the following changes:
· Elimination of price differences based on antenna (e.g., pricing of a package is the same for .75M, .98M, and 1.2M antennas)
· Decreased contingency ratios for shared bandwidth
· Increased uplink and downlink speeds
Performance enhancements are already in effect for the various service packages. Price adjustments will take effect as of April 1, 2009 (unless your account is still under the 12 month activation contract). A letter is being mailed out this week to all EtherSAT customers which will explain in more detail these changes.
MotoSAT greatly appreciates your business and it is our goal to provide the most flexible and reliable VSAT broadband service on the market. Thank you for being an EtherSAT customer.
Best regards,
Kevin Snow Vice President of Operations & COO MotoSAT

So I have been running at about 1MB/200K since this email came out. I am not sure what the point was. Downloads have gotten worse (by testmy.net measures) and uploads have stayed the same.

TK, is there any change in your Ethersat performance? According to the motosat website I would have to pay $649/month for the service plan you have (2056/768), yet you say it is delivering 1000/200 in real service. AtContact has a 1024/384 plan for $285/month, less than half price.
So I'm really confused by all this. Chad at Motosat tells me this morning that Ethersat is now much more stable but that all the iDirect providers are similar in reliability.
Does anyone else have any personal experience with iDirect reliability, speed, and cost they can share? I'm ready to get online with iDirect ASAP and have called our nearby Motosat dealer to get on his schedule.
we also guarantee you a min assured speed that is 25% of rated. it will never go below that
SLA also guarantees 99.7% network up time
The SLA also stipulates that if your average network speeds drop below 50% of rated we begin to offer credits.
bump it up to 512 X 2 meg for an additional $99.
you will see about 1200 - 1500 down
Contention is 50:1
If someone has an XF3 or 2 with a D3 and wanted to try the service I will ship them a preconfigured modem, transmitter and LNB so they can try it for a few weeks no obligation for free. Just ship me back the equipment after a few weeks of testing.
I would ask for a $600 deposit on the equipment which will promptly be returned when you return the equipment.

I know atContact does not have an SLA and doubt Ethersat does. Not to throw the Spacenet SLA too far under the bus, but it only comes into play if performance falls to the 50% of stated speeds level and 97.9% uptime means you could have over 24 hrs of downtime each year before any remedies come into play. I didn't see what the remedies are - which might help the Spacenet argument I suppose.

regarding the Spacenet SLA, for instance on the performance series service the SLA states that you will see average networks speeds of 80% of rated. If it falls below 80 -70% you get a 10% refund for that month, 70-60% you get a 20% refund, 60 to 50% you get a 30% refund. If it ever falls below the minimum 50% assured speeds you get a full credit for the month. The performance series plan has a 10:1 contention ratio. The other plans have similar but lower rated SLA's like the plan I quoted in the post above which is the Broadband plan with 50:1 contention)
I think Spacenet is the only company that will give you guarantees in writing and a minimum assured speed with service credits for not meeting the target goals.
They also operate 3 ground hubs, Marietta GA, Mclean VA, and Chicago with the ability to route traffic to any hub on the fly should there be trouble at your normally assigned hub.
Spacenet operates on AMC-5, AMC-6, AMC-4, G-27 and soon will be opening up service on a 5th satellite which I am not at liberty to disclose right now due to the terms of my NDA.
We are also beta testing our next generation SE II modem series and will soon be launching it some time in Q3.
The new SE-II modem will also be introduced on the Starband consumer side and along with the existing 1000, and 1500 plan an additional "2000" plan will be available that bumps download speeds up to 2048Kbps. New and improved FAP thresholds will also be introduced at the same time. Official pricing on the new plan has not been released yet.
New upgrade options are also going to be released soon on the Starband consumer side.
