This is a continuation of this thread discussing issues with browsing specific websites for 105W users.

I enter http://www.verizonwireless.com in the address bar, I see activity in the status bar, text appears on the tab, but nothing loads on the page. The status bar sticks at "waiting for cache.vzw.com".

Stranger still (to me), I go to my other computer that is connected to my VPN and the site loads right away. Even stranger still, if I leave the stuck page sitting there, I eventually (like 5+ minutes later) get one of those stripped-down web pages I have mentioned before - here is the one in this case - clearly not the usual rich content of the Verizon site.

If I hit reload, the normal rich content appears. What gives?

I have seen that (rarely) on my 6meg DSL line at home. It happens because the portion of the site that handles the css code didn't respond. In this case that would appear to be cache.vzw.com.

i have been having the same issue across several sites using iDirect. Franco has duplicated the problem at his office using an F1 on 105W so they are aware of the problem. i have been sending Jim and Franco emails almost daily regarding these and other issues. I had hoped that with enough emails the Hub might be encouraged to do something about it. On another note however, speeds have been very good. Just too bad pages don't want to load. Just can't win.

yes, I sent Franco a link to this thread, so he has my input as well.

Still to me, odd it worked on one computer (connected to VPN) but not on another - almost like the VPN greased the skids though one would think it would make things worse. I dunno, maybe with VPN packets are handled differently. Somebody geekier than me might know!

Most likely all internet traffic is routed over that VPN back to the corporate office of wherever you're VPNing into, and leaving over their gateway. If you go to whatismyip.com on both computers (one VPN'd, one not), do you see the same public IP on both? Or are they different?

The web site reported the same IP for both computers - 8.7.x.x (assuming I should not post the whole thing here...).

One is XP, one is Vista - hopefully it is not a Vista oddity.

Just one more thought here on the VPN, I don't know it for a fact, but it probably has tunneling going, so that regular internet traffic does not go through the corporate network.

When the VPN is programmed, they usually have the option to send ALL traffic to the VPN connection, or just the required subnets. If you do a tracert command like "tracert 4.2.2.2" you will quickly see if ordinary traffic is tunneled as well.

I've been on 105W all day without problems, VoIP over VPN (IPSEC/ESP/SHA1/AES256). I don't think it gets any harder than that.

Today seeing issues (not uncommon) with www.intellicast.com loading. As you see in the image below, just the banner would load, and then it would sit there for 3 minutes before more would load. Then it stuck again for a couple minutes before it finally reported being done loading the page.

Here are the URLs it stuck on:

C:\>ping images.intellicast.com

Pinging cdn.wsi.com.c.footprint.net [204.160.114.126] with 32 bytes of data:

In fact, right before posting this, I hit preview and just got an empty pop-up browser window for about a minute 45 seconds - said it was waiting on www.datastormusers.com.

Further, when I finally posted it, right after the thanks for posting message, got the "connection lost or reset" message in the browser.

TK, that's the same kind of problems i have been seeing. I received an email from Motosat today that basically said they tested the reported browsing issues and there were no problems. huh?? I know i'm not imagining things, and i'm not the only one, right? Is any one else on the F1 iDirect service, or am i the only sucker left? I'm wondering if there is any one else on the same equipment and such as me to compare notes with?

I have experienced the same situation as TK occasionally on Verizon's website using Hughes on 117. Most of the time it works properly but about 1 out of 3 or 4 times I get the simple page.

Anyone have trouble getting to Dell on 105? For me it hung on a blank page, only the tab populated, then I eventually got this:

 -

Oh, went back and it eventually loaded more stuff, but in "stripped down" form we have discussed before. Guess I will swap out my router today and see if that makes any difference.

Due to a misplaced power supply I am not able to swap out my "backup" router, so that will have to wait until I return to civilization and can get a new one.

I also noticed over the weekend that I could not get to www.itunes.com, but DonB said he had no problem. So while I normally us my connection wired due to the distance between computer and router (and both stuffed in cabinets), I switched over to wireless. Both dell.com and itunes.com popped up no problem.

The first response might be to expect the cables, but I have ethernet cables running to each of my computers and both have similar problems, so that made me doubt outright that it was the cables.

So, I grab a spare, shorter cable and take one of the laptops back and connect to the router. Dell and itunes popped up immediately. As one additional test, I swapped ports with this test cable and one going to the desk. Again had trouble getting to itunes, but dell came up OK.

So it does look like we are on the trail of something here. Others having browsing issues may want to investigate the networking gear. I'll report further results next week when I can get my hands on a new router, maybe some new cables.

I tried swapping to an older linksys router i had, and then a netgear router. Both routers i swapped in had the same results as the original router. I also tried using different cables with no change.
