I did some web reading on how skype works and made some changes. My skype to computer and land line are now crystal clear, with less latency issues.

I used method 1, since it is the simplest and my router has uPnP. Great improvement on both ends of the call based on a small sample. Your mileage will most likely differ.

Method 1 if your router has uPnP builtin:
** First backup your router configuration!!!!!
1) go to skype options settings and copy or remember the port that is set. I have read of no reason to change from the default.
2) on skype check the enable uPnP box
3) on skype disable the fallback to ports 80 and 443 Note- This will probably disable skype until setup is completed.
4) in router admin turn on uPnP. Set period to 1, and TTL to 10 or so.
5) Reboot computer (to trigger the uPnP)
Enjoy.

Method 2, if no PnP, but your router does have Port Forwarding.
** First backup your router configuration!!!!!
1) go to skype options settings and copy or remember the port that is set. I have read of no reason to change from the default.
2) on skype options disable the fallback to ports 80 and 443 Note- This will probably disable skype until setup is completed.
3) set your skype computer to a fixed IP
4) go to router port fwd page
5) add a service, name it skype for ident purposes only, set for your computer fixed IP and the skype port number Note- the IP_phone or such that may be a preset option will probably not be the correct port number.
Reboot computer (for fun, if no other reason)
Enjoy

Note: if neither of the above work, I suggest to double check everything, but re-enable the port 80 and 443 fallback in the skype, which should get skype back running. while you try to figure it out or perhaps reload the saved router config. You can maybe leave the 80/443 fallback on, since the first skype attempt should be via the specified port.

Update P.S. Also, if not already done so, enable QOS in the router if available and computer network setup, and select or create as necessary a rule for the application Skype on the router.
