The trial period for beam select service, where users may choose between satellites 105 and 121 is now over. From here on, users desiring this option will have to pay $25 per month in addition to the regular service to have this option. Those EtherSat users who want this service should contact technical support. It is available to customers on both the 3/4m service and regular service. However it is not available to customers having static IP service.

I left a voice mail with Frank a few mins ago.

But would appreciate going back to a single beam asap (121) if he will not be in shortly. Problems started with modem not staying on line when I went to the two beams. Trying to find out if it is that or my LNB as Don suggested.
When I lose signal, and the modem reboots, the modem seems to be set for 105 even though I left on 121. Reset and the receive light (iDmod tool ) comes back on. Other issues if I do not get a TX light within 6 or 8 mins. but that's another long story...

Thanks

Ted

The modem should not reboot when it loses signal. Is it possible the two events are reversed? Meaning the reboot happens, then the loss of signal?

The modem comes up on one of the two satellites randomly, in my experience. However if the modem reboots and comes up on the right satellite, and you don't run iDModTool, then the signal is lost, the modem will switch to the other satellite.

To stop that, we programmed iDModTool to lock the satellite (until the next reboot).

Mine never reboots on its own.

I can't see how the LNB would cause modem reboots.

Thanks John..

Don, I could have other problems. But when I can watch it, the SQ goes from 80's down to the 60's and fluctuates to the 50's Modem reboots and now is set for 105. I have had it on early last night and all day today with no problems. I only run windows for your program so I don't get a lot of opportunities to watch it..

Since John can watch your system from his end maybe he can tell why it reboots; I just can't think of any reason why signal loss would cause that. SQ, incidentally, is a Motosat-created number, and may or may not compare with the real, important, number that the modem uses which is RX SNR.

Modem reboots are typically due to the falcon_monitor daemon detecting an issue with the options file....it then reboots the unit in an effort to resolve it.

Ted,
I looked at your recent activity the last couple of hours, and I have one small concern. The received signal power coming into your modem, not the SNR, but rather the amount of signal, at about -60 dB seems low. This could be the cable or the LNB or the splitter inside the D3 or similar controller. I would like you to try to isolate this by disconnecting the RX cable from the roof from the MotoSat controller and connecting it directly to the receive port on the iDirect modem, bypassing the MotoSat controller. This will work as long as the dish is already pointed. It may be necessary to reboot the modem after the wire is connected. Then observe the RX power, third bargraph down on the ID modem tool. I'm looking for a number around -35. the loss of signal strength by going through the MotoSat controller should be about 3 dB only. This experiment is done entirely in the closet where the modem is located, nothing about climbing on the roof.

John, it is the D3, guess I will order another one from Don B.... My old D3. Cannot connect to it anymore. Tried reset and everything.. Did a port scan on it's IP of 1.250 and 0.250 and nothing came up...

I'm guessing that you tried bypassing it like I said and found a large increase in Rx Power ?

On the reset, did you power it up while holding search and stow and try to telnet to it?

But then if it looses 30 db of signal in the passthru it isn't much good anyway.
