Well, another first (or last) for Janet and me. Janet and I were the last people ever to register for a night of camping at the Nevada Palace RV park here in Las Vegas. Last night was the last night the park will be open to the public. We had to be off our site by 12 noon as the power was being disconnected and the development of an expansion of the Nevada Palace of some kind will be under way. Before we could get disconnected there were folks there with blueprints so I think things are likely to happen pretty quickly. Oh well, one more RV park gone in Vegas! We left the $16.50/night park for Sam's Town one block away and "only" had to pay $36.50! This appears to be a growing trend in Vegas as they have had close to a dozen parks wiped out in the last year or so. Ah, progress! We will be moving to the Outdoor Resorts on the 16th to take advantage of a 5 night free camping offer for Class A owners (they claim that this is a $500 value!??!?!) Yikes! If you would like 5 free night of camping and you own a class A RV you can get the coupon at http://www.or-indio-vegas.com/images/coupon.pdf and it is good for either the Indio or Vegas properties. You can use all at one location or parts of the coupon at both.

You are right Bill, it's getting difficult to find a decent spot at a reasonable cost here in Vegas. We are also at Sam's Town right now and the dish is pointed right into a tree but surprise it still sees the bird. You got to love the side by side hookups here We usually stay at the Oasis, but from what I hear it's days are numbered also

Bill, if you are ever in or near Myrtle Beach SC look us up. I would really like to see the Infamous Adams in person.
We are losing parks here too. $1Million plus per acre to high rise condos. The trouble is that no one can afford the new insurance rates. $5oo per yr jumped to $2900 per year.
America, the land of opportunity or is it opportunism?
Give my love to all the tour buses their. I was a driver for 32 years. Drive safe.

Wow, $1 Million per acre, that's cheap by Vegas Strip standards! As the "Strip" expands farther and farther way from Las Vegas Blvd the land in the suburbs looks more and more like downtown. I don't know how or why this city can expand the way that is does but it sure does. Wynn completed his $2+ Billion dollar complex only to start again and build Encore. City Center will be a $7 Billion dollar complex and the entire setup will all be open on the same day (not a phased development) in 2009. Next up is Echelon Place due to open in 2010 at 4.2 Billion in their first phase. The condo along the Strip start in the $500,000 range and run to 12 Million. No one know when the end will be reached, but there is an end. I feel sorry for the last guy who builds just one too many Casino/Condo/Complexes and gets burned. I guess I shouldn't feel bad for them as they will be using other peoples money anyway!

There are a couple of places near Vegas where I'd love to have a few acres. Close enough to make them "handy" to the strip, but far enough away to be lower in cost.
Of course if the boom continues they would (Sooner or later) become rather... Valuable. but if you are far enough out even if the bust happens, which it will... you would still have value for your money.
Put in a dump & Fill station and you can park your rig, Or my rig, or his rig, or her rig since Clark County changed the rule to from "You must have full hook up sites" to "You must have at least ONE dump station well marked"
Then, you can expand the number of dump stations till it equals the number of places you can park a rig.

Boy, I sure do like my little lot here on the beach with no fear of running out of water. Cheap too but a great winter place. Would stay here year round but the boss makes us wander around the country side in the summer.:-)

You may already be aware of this spot but we found an RV Park right off Boulder highway that was quiet and reasonably priced .... and not nearly filled. We were unable to get a spot at Oasis or Hitching Post, or at several other RV Parks along Boulder highway when someone suggested we try "Hidden Valley RV". It was previously a KOA and not meticuously maintained (but certainly adequate with many big rigs onsite) ..., had a guard at the entrance, and was clean and reasonable ... and best of all my dish had a clear view of the sky!! $27.50 for a pull through, full hookup.

Jim, I went to Satellite Friendly and looked for a campground with the Hidden Valley name in the Las Vegas area and didn't find it. Is it on the road to Boulder City? It appears it should be added to the ones there. It sounds like a place I would like to stay at some point in the future and would like a means of finding it.
Thanks,

Hidden Valley is on Bolder Hwy between Sam's Town and Bolder Station. If your map shows Thousand Trails Las Vegas it's about 20 yards south (Not next door, but next door to next door) It's that close.

Bill, you're welcome. But FREE is good ... and better if you don't have to listen to any sales pitch!
Stephen .... sorry about that! Seems when we got to our stick house we got caught up in all the little stuff. I'm updated ... at home in Idaho now.
Here is a link to Google Earth selections of the sites in Vegas. http://rvvegas.com/rv_vegas/airview/IMAG000A.JPG However .... this photo was probably taken during ownership transition ... or mid summer as it looks deserted. Believe me it wasn't a month ago.
I thought I added it to the Satellite Friendly ... but I guess it was late when we got in and I forgot. Most sites are probably clear.
