Larry: I upgraded from a D2/6000 to the D3/7000 earlier this year and used my "old" WRT54G without any problems.

I am curious. Why do think this is a MotoSAT problem? It appears to be a Linksys problem to me. Anyway we have a new configuration parameter in the latest software. You can set the startup delay. I guess I would ask. If you set the startup dealy does this problem go away?

Ron, at the risk of widening this into more than just a WRT54G problem, why do you allow the D3 to search when it is in Hughes mode, with a -48 error?
It is frustrating as can be to have it go up, find the satellite, and then stow.
Particularly since it usually (on my system) establishes modem communication when it is done stowing!
Since many of us use the front panel button to send the dish up, we aren't aware of what the problem was until checking status after the failure.

The problem with the software exists in both the 7000 and 7000S modem. I consider it to be a MotoSAT problem since it is their hardware that needs to communicate and they wrote the software.

This problem may have expanded to the newest 54GC models. I have a new customer reporting the same problems. I'm sending him a known working 54GC and I will report back if that solves it.

Rats!!! I just bought one to do an install the 18th. Oh well I will use it anyway. Can't be any worse than whats going on with the 54G's.

It now appears that it is NOT the 54GC but perhaps is a defective D3. I understand Ashley is taking a replacement D3 to the customer by MotoSat's request.

PMFJI, but I've seen the msg-48 a few times here.
Just now, starting with an F2/DW7000S/D3/WRT54C that had been pointed and online for days that had also been bounced a few times today due to shore power drops (probably due to power surges my surge protector did not like), I turned my D3 on and saw msg-48 in Don's D-3 Administrator 1.0.23. This was quickly replaced with Rx5 & Tx8 as the D3 booted up.
Which means? I haven't the slightest idea. Just trying to add data to the issue.

Ron, I just deduced that you're a MotoSat employee from another post. Is that correct? If so, you should sign as such.
"I am curious. Why do think this is a MotoSAT problem?"
If my earlier guess is correct, and this has to do with autosensing/negotiation of the Ethernet link, then this is some issue between the 7000(s) and the Linksys switch/router (the Linksys is likely to have added MDI/MDIX to its set of auto-features). But MotoSat is a third party in the setup/startup, it can make matters worse if it isn't aware of this newly induced timing problem between the other 2 "partners". Now you allowing a delay may often work. But likely, if you need a delay to get things going today, that's almost always going to be a problem in the future when a different delay is needed for other reasons. It would be nice if these systems would come up correctyly, regardless of any order and timing. Maybe MotoSat should experiment with this, and make it work regardless of order, timing and other delays.
Of course, I'm assuming that it is not a hard error between the 7000(s) and the Linksys, but I doubt it is, as we would have seen people without MotoSat complaining loudly (and there are probably hundreds of non-MotoSat for each MotoSat user).

Not that it does any good! MotoSAT is not very good at listening to the people who actually use their software. They are very good at listening to Don, however.

I hope they hear that. I don't think they understand the frustration we have to deal with as first line Tech support.

If he did that then people might assume he was speaking for or on behalf of Motosat. We know who he is.... and I think his participation is a win/win situation for all of us and Motosat.
Lets not blow his cover

I suspect that because of Don and Bill alone, MotoSat has increased their sales volume by hundreds of units.
Employees of successful companies listen to their customers. I'm sure they listen to you as well Bill
If in a month or so a new version of the software comes out, and it addresses this problem, that would be proof of it If not, then I'm wrong
For now, I suggest that anybody with a working system not upgrade their router/switch firmware, as they're likely going to experience the same problem users of newer Linksys systems are. This issue is also likely to spread to other router/switch vendors.
PS. Ron, autosensing/negotiation of Ethernet links can take as much as 8 to 10 seconds to complete.
