I recently upgraded to a D3 and a HS7000S. I still need a new UCB, and I am in the process of getting one.
My problem is that each morning between 8 and 9 I lose my Internet connection. It will come back on by itself sometimes as soon as 6:30 PM, but usually not until around midnight.
Prior to losing the signal I have around a 700 strength and 85 quality. When I lose the signal the strength remains unchanged, but the quality drops to either 15 or 30.
I am on Satmex 5 117W 1270 frequency. Is any one else experiencing this problem? Does any one have any ideas what might be causing this problem?
It's 6:46 AM here now, so my time is quickly running out!!!!

Where abouts are you? Last summer when we were in CA Hughes level 2 (or was it 3) tried to move us to 1270 but it was not there at all (middle of the day). I believe there are problems with the top 3 transponders 1230,1250 and 1270 but you will never get a straight answer from them

I am in central Florida. I guess it could be a radar detector somewhere near by. I will be interested to see if this continues on Sunday. It may be some commercial interference.
Some observations, if I hit the search button it will do a small search in the general direction it is already pointed, but return to the exact same coordinates for elevation, azimuth and skew. At the bottom of the D3 page on my browser the D3 continues to try to refresh itself. The signal quality fluctuates between 15 and 30 and every once in awhile will jump to 85 for less then a second. Yet at sometime in the late evening, it will come back on-line without anything being done.

Might there be another DataStormer in your area?? If so, you could take your modem to them and try it on their system. If it works on another system then you will know it is your equipment or location that is the problem. If not then you will know it is a Hughes problem. If a Huhghes problem then you can get a satellite change.

They have the same assignment. Looks like a Hughes problem!

Don, So with my HN7000S modem on Satmex5 and 1270 frequency I got screwed upgrading! I could have stayed with my DW4000 and had a longer morning on the Internet. At least I could function until 10 AM with my DW4000. Hopefully they will resolve this issue quickly, I don't plan to hold my breath however. Since I no longer have a DW4000, will they move me to another satellite?

I am also on SatMex5 1270 MHz. I've noticed recently that SatMex5 sometimes switches from a TX8 [Transmitter available for Normal Operation] to TX15 [The transmitter is waiting for a ranging request to be processed by the Network Operations Center]. If I do nothing, the TX15 stays there for many hours.
In order to get back online, I use Don Bradner's D2/D3 Administrator to do a Force Range. Sometimes this Force Range has to be done repeatedly in order to get the MODEM to its TX9 mode, which eventurally gets you back to the desired, TX8.

Coach If your VAR is MotoSat then you can just call them and get switched to another satellite. If you are using the internet dish for TV then that complicates it a little.
Satmex5 has been notoriously troublesome and slow. Nearly any other satellite will be a better choice.
If your account is directly with Hughes then you can plan on a few hours on the phone convincing them to switch you (Don't tell them you are portable!).

It has quit working altogether. I have not been on-line with my dish since 8 AM Friday morning.
George, I downloaded Don's D3 Administrator and copied it to my Motosat computer. I still do not have my upgraded UCB so there are problems sometimes with the dish doing what it is told to do. Doing a Force Range seemed to have no effect. I'm going to try a few more things, but I don't have much hope that things will change.

I am also seeing deterioration in things on SatMex5. The Rate Code has gone down recently to 256k 1/2 (S). And, I am getting many, many TX-5s, [Transmitter not locked to network timing].
The TX5s are only instant, lasting for a second or so. However, this is a new thing.
I will send an email to Motosat support.
George

I just took a quick look at my rate code and it's the same as Georges, down to 1/2. I've also noticed that I've had 2,358 transitions from Tx 8 to 5 and back again.
The last time this happened, back in November, the temporary solution was to change your D2/3 configuration from DirecWay to Generic. Not sure why it cleared the problem but it did. A couple of days later I changed it back to DirecWay and all was well.... so Hughes must have done something to fix the problem.
Not sure it will help this time... but might be worth trying.

I tried to change my D2 from DirecWay to Generic, and it crashed. Wouldn't work that way? Hmmmm?
I've sent an email to Motosat, asking them to contact Hughes for me.

George, Not that is should matter, but try simply turning off the D2/D3 and see if it helps. It should have the same effect as putting it into Generic. Have you double checked to make sure Hughes did not change your transponder? Have you re-run the registration installer? All just guesses at how the problem might be resolved.

I did a little digging and discovered that in the past 12 days I've had 2,508 Tx 5's that caused just over 50 min. of Tx down time. It should also be noted that during those 12 days I've also had 1 Tx-9, 1 Tx-10, 1 Tx-17 and 3 Tx-20 which added an additional 2 min. 46 sec to my total Tx down time.
I've had 158 more incidents of Tx-5 since I first responded. They seem to be occurring about every 7-10 min. sometimes quicker.
I changed the configuration of the D2 from DirecWay to Generic, mine didn't crash and I haven't had a problem since the change. Coincidence.... Who knows... your guess is as good as mine but at least the Tx-5's have stopped.
