This just started the yesterday. My HN7000s modem won't really come on, just the bottom light turns on. I was on the net just fine, then turned off, about 2 hours later, tried to get on the net, and nothing but the bottom light. Every once in a while (3-5 minutes) all lights will flash, but that's it.

Do I need another modem?

Maybe but it sounds like the power pack went south.

That is usually an indication that the modem is toast. You will find that you have no access to anything in the modem, even if you could do a telnet or other operation. Someone reported that they were able to push a reset/rescue button to bring the modem back to life but as far as I know, only one person. If you do not have a reset/rescue button on the back he found one behind the front of the modem on the circuit board. I am not sure how to disassemble the front of the modem but it looked like there were just clips around the edge.

I tried reset/rescue button, change power adapters, still nothing. So, I found a used unit yesterday for $250 (I know), and registered it this morning (yuk), and now I am back in the saddle.

I might try and find a used unit for a backup if this happens again.

Something I discovered, when you go through registration, and it is downloading encryption, etc, you are actually able to check email....
