Hello Folks, My first post - first of all my thanks to Mr. Don Bradner and the wonderful bunch of helpful folks here who comprise this forum that I could straightaway jump to.
I am a soon-to-be new Datastorm user. I shall be using satellite G16 [no control over it]. I have never ever previously dealt with TV and have never owned a TV all my life. I was told I could get TV reception on Datastorm F1 and on a bit of research I found I would want to go with Dish TV Flex as it allows me to receive without a contract and I am not sure how long I would like to keep it or if I would even keep it.
My question is that given my need to use G16 with Dish TV *only* and mainly I just want to see news channels, what kind of BOW should I get installed. I talked to someone who offered to sell me a $385 item which receives HD but I am fine with SD - I know I would never watch enough TV for SD and HD to make a difference for me. On the other hand, I would not want to buy something that becomes obsolete soon and if SD is going to become obsolete soon, it may be better to spend more money and buy HD products. Given that what thing should I get installed and [slightly out of topic] which Dish TV receiver should I buy.
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

A universal BOW will allow you to receive 119 with Dish Network. If you can find one of these kits they generally run less than $100. There is no reason to believe that this would become obsolete any time in the foreseeable future. If you can still get signed up for the Dish Network Flex plan (I heard it was no longer available) it required specific hardware so be sure that you get what you need to meet your needs.

Bill, I believe you meant 110 sat with the BOW, didn't you? At least that's the way mine is, I'm pretty sure. When I started out in AZ my BOW LNB was about in the middle and the more north I have come I've been sliding it in towards the internet LNB. Now in the UP of Mi I have it adjusted all the way in to keep the best signal for 110 sat. Heck, it could be 119 on the BOW, my memory is about as long as my little finger.
quote: 119 is the main SD Dish Network satellite. There is some programming on 110, but not much.
I have a program card where I marked which satellite the SD channels were on. Actually it is about 50/50. There may be a package that used one satellite, but, I think you need both, 110 and 119.

Thanks a bunch, folks. I got a bird on wire fit for both 110 and 119 per your advice as I am not even sure which all channels I would want. I shall let you folks know how it goes once I am able to pick up a receiver for the Dish TV service - hopefully I should have something by the weekend.
