Question:
what do the letters in parentheses after the sat numbers ie, 103 (cb),(ca),(s), in the Directv signal strength menu screens mean?
Thanks, Al Mers

(s) is spot beam, (c) is CONUS (continental US). Not sure why there's CONUS A and CONUS B. Don't expect to get good numbers for any of the (s) transponders, since you won't be where most of them are aimed.

A and B are high and low bands of the Ka spectrum. There are two satellites located at each of the 99 and 103 locations; the first ones located there broadcast in the traditional high side of the frequencies, while the later ones use not-previously-used spectrum. That lead to the need for "B-Band converters" to upshift the signal, until later receivers were built that could pick up the lower frequency.

Thanks Don, I never did know what the deal was with the B-band converters.
