If you will permit a follow on question, has anyone found a way to stop fapmon from counting uploads? Hughes does not count uploads against the quota but fapmon does. Since I use Mozy for online backups and upload large amounts of data, the numbers get totally out of whack and are useless. Also, has anyone played with the new tool that Hughes has come out with to know if it counts uploads, or if it works at all?

Another question, We got FAP'd yesterday - first time in 7 years. Typical 2 user day with no major downloads. What does it take for a FAP?

If you are a VAR customer you would have exceeded your 375MB/24 hour limit. If you are a home direct user the limit could be as low as 200MB. Whether you are aware of it or not (automatic software update, etc.) you did have some major download or you would not be in FAP.

I am a VAR customer. Any way to convert these frames received numbers to MB numbers, or any other way to measure usage?

You can use a program like FAPMon (the subject of this topic) or you can take a look at your usage from time to time on the Hughes website. http://customercare.myhughesnet.com/frm_usage.cfm It runs about 3-4 hours behind your actual usage but you could see exactly when you go FAP'd this time and you could monitor it if you think you are going to have to do a large download in the future. Don't forget that if you do need to download large files (or want to schedule updates) you can do these from 2am - 7am Eastern Time without counting against your download limit.

New user trying to get FapMon to work with no results. Downloaded and installed the latest version. Fapmon shows my bucket and SS, but has never ever showed anthing in the Rx, Tx columns. I've been on wi-fi and direct connection and no difference. Have opened port 6000 in firewall (?), and checked the telnet box. Suggestions appreciated.

Well, I think I have FINALLY figured out my Fapmon problems. In a nutshell, here is what I think the problem was. Fapmon would show signal strength and bucket, but never any action in the Rx Tx columns. I changed lines in .ini files and downloaded the latest versions of Fapmon, tried it with and without wi-fi or router, on different machines and OS, firewall on and off, all to no avail. My HN7000S modem is new, however and had the 5.8.0.72 version of 'firmware' installed. All the lines I was initially adding and changing in the modem defs ini file were for previous versions! When I finally found the correct line, my vista machine would not allow me to edit (save) the file in Notepad. A quick edit with my Win7 laptop solved that and I was back in business. '5.8.0.72' => '/cgi/execAdvCom.bin?Command=76' is the entry that finally got it working. Since I have been fapped several times in my first month (!), this should help a lot. Thanks for all the helpful posts in the forum.

I just got a new laptop Toshiba, having a nightmare trying to change hnfapmon modem defs in windows 7. It refuses to let me save the notepad back to the modemdefs file. What am I doing wrong? The version I am using is 4.5.4 on windows 7 using a HN7000S modem...
