My most recent utility, hnFAP-Alert, would not remember its settings on Windows 7 unless it was set for XP compatibility mode. That, in-turn, would trigger a UAC warning for those that have UAC turned on.
Today I finally figured out what was happening and fixed it. Version 1.0.16 is posted now, and I would like feedback about how it is working. Note that, if you have XP mode on you will need to uncheck it in order to stop UAC.
The same problem plagues the rest of my utilities, although most of them do not have the configuration requirements of hnFAP-Alert. I have so far fixed and released these:

I've installed and tested hnFAP-Alert, D2Admin, and DSLookAngle under Windows 7 64 bit, turned off all compatibility, and all seem to run just fine and remember their settings. I have UAC turned off so don't get any UAC warnings.

Thanks, Ned. Here's the distressing thing for me:
As I looked around the net for a solution (which I didn't find) I found a number of others with the same thing happening. In the cases where they posted large amount of codes it was obvious that they were using functions I wrote and published more than 10 years ago.
I finally found the mistake in one API declare, which was for a value that is documented as unused, and therefore the mistake didn't matter in the past. For whatever reason, Win7 is now validating that value, and denying access to the registry values unless you put it into XP mode.
Since there are others who have published their own registry functions without the mistake not everyone had the problem, but it shows how nothing ever dies on the net!

Don, I am using D4Admin and the HNFap programs successfully since the software change. I really don't have any need to monitor the Hughes FAP, but a side benefit for me is that I have both a cellular and satellite connection available (most times) but the connection sometimes get switched from one to the other either by me intentionally, by mistake or by the computer Gods and I sometimes lose track of which connection I am using. With the FAP monitor running all I have to do is look down to see if there are numbers in the box or an exclamation point to know whether I am connected to satellite or not. Cool!

I will likely find that to be a good use myself, as I usually have multiple connections going and it is sometimes hard to tell what I am really using.

I just got a new Windows 7 Ultimate Desktop I got Sterling's program, the hnFAP-Alertv 1.1.59 to work with no problem.
But after many, many, many tries. I can't get the idsamin 1.2.0.85 to open and work. I get the "Did not install correctly" over and over.
I have downloaded it to a folder and the desktop. Checked and un checked the compatibility for XP 3.
Shortcut always has that damn shield on it.
Also it came with 15 months of Norton. That gave problems yesterday but I got that fixed after 3-4 hours.
I can get to the D3 controller, but really would like to have Don's program working.

I posted it wrong. I meant to say Sterling's program downloaded and installed OK and your program the hnFAP-Alertv 1.1.59 did also.
Yes I downloaded and running idsadmin installer, each time.
But the program never opens. After downloaded, when I click idsadmin then on Run. All I get is the MS Window that pops up "Did not install correctly"

I did that before and no change. It did change it to a XP service pak 2.
But I tried it again with a new download. It ask to do the change again. And this time it showed up on the start menu after I went to the folders and made a short cut it is now working great. I did have to change the IP address on mine from a .1 to a .0
2 days now trying to set up this new PC I used one of those transfer cables programs yesterday. Then the Windows 7 wouldn't even boot up and I had to go back to a restore.
Had to get up at 2:30AM Wed. to download all the 60 or so updates, so I wouldn't get in to FAP
Now still working on email problems & no calendar to work with yet, like my old one.
Thanks for the help.
