I am now looking for beta testers for iDSMapper, which is an iPhone application for submitting location and message to the datastormusers.com map. If you have an iPhone or iPod touch, and are interested in being a beta tester, please send me an email. I'll send you back detailed instructions on what you need to do. Since I won't be using the iTunes App store for beta testing, there are a couple hoops to jump through to get the application on your device.

Oh - if you're a tripod user, the application will use the Location Manager API to attempt to figure out your location, so you don't need to have a Datastorm controller. The GPS in the 2nd Gen iPhone is about as accurate as the D3. Cell triangulation (1st Gen iPhone) is a less accurate, and WiFi location (iPod Touch) isn't very accurate at all.

Your latest version of DSMapSubmit for Mac is great. After the initial install and setting the preference it worked great. We will be getting Iphones at the end of this month and I am sending you an email to try your Iphone App. In researching Apps for Iphone we have found 15,000+ apps. So many apps, so little time.

I'm making good progress on my second iPhone app, tentatively called iDSControl. It's intended to replicate the functionality of the Datastorm web control pages, similar to Don's D3Admin program (I think that's what he calls it).
I'm going to start collecting names of people who want to test that program as well. You must have a Datastorm controller for this one. If you're interested in that list, let me know.
Make sure you tell me what app you're interested in (or both), and what kind of device you have (1st Gen iPhone, 2nd Gen iPhone, iPod Touch).
Thanks!

Still looking for people who would like to test out these apps and provide feedback. If you're interested, send a PM via this forum. Please include your email address.
Requirements -
For iDSMapper (map update app), you really need either a Datastorm controller on a Wifi network, or you need an iPhone with a built-in GPS. If you don't have either, you're not likely to be able to get a reasonably accurate location to submit.
For iDSControl (DataStorm controller interface), you need a D3 controller on a WiFi network. I only have a D3, so that's what it knows how to talk to. I have no idea what will happen if you try to talk to some earlier version controller.
You'll also need to send me the UDID (Unique Device ID) of your iPhone or iPod Touch. I'll send instructions on how to do that, but it's a necessary in order for me to create applications you can install without going through the iTunes App Store.
Thanks!

You're locked into one provider anywhere.
Don't know anything about that Samsung phone. I assume it's running Windows Mobile 6.X or some such. Other than Don and I, I've heard of no one doing apps for Datastorm control.
You could always use an iPod Touch if you don't want to get an iPhone.

Hey Joe, a couple years have gone by and I have a whole new set of UDIDs to give you as we've upgraded all our iDevices since you first rolled out your apps. Why don't you just submit them to the App Store so anyone can grab them?
Maybe you already have, I'm going to go check on that right now.
