iDModTool is now a released product. It has been built as a setup executable, downloadable from www.datastormusers.com/files/iDMTSetup.exe

The beta zip file has been removed.

This is what the screen now looks like:

 -

The only visible difference is that the traffic light has been replaced with three discrete lights that match the three on the modem itself. The previous light used only the network indicator.

The lights are either yellow or green.

There are some under-the-hood changes to resolve issues that came up during testing.

The program has a "hidden purpose" that makes it an aid tool for beam-switching when the user has multiple beams available. That function will be apparent and obvious to anyone on such an account, otherwise it doesn't matter to other users.

The program has been added to the downloadable files list.

Don I ran the tool and I do not show any RxSNR indicator lights, TxPwr lights or RxPwr lights. I do show SQ indicator lights. Modem box displays the correct modem gateway, controller box displays the correct local address and correct sat. Modem State lights are somewhat yellow in color. ??? How do I add a pic to this post, the meds are stealing my mind.

I may need to rename the tool "Ethersat Modem Tool."

The modem telnet login and password are necessary for it to work.

Do you know those for your provider? If that is typically known by users of other systems I could add a menu option to set them.

Yes I know them from my provider. Are you saying to telnet into the 3100 then run the tool?

No, it doesn't work that way - the program must telnet into the modem. What I need to do is to add an option for you to tell the program what your login and password are.

I've e-mailed you a copy that has the login option - test and let me know if you see any problems.

Yes, don't post logins/passwords, and I'm not asking for the info - it is something for the user to add on their own to the program.

For what it's worth, the password that Ethersat uses for their modems isn't unique to them. Most of the providers that I've used, have the same password. The only one who has used something unique, is AtContact.

I'll give it a try tomorrow. Thanks. By the way MotoSat was not even aware that my password for my 3100 had been changed a long time ago. Things are now updated at their end.

Interesting. The controller firmware has the password embedded. It can be changed, but is not an obvious thing. I wonder if there are other AtContact folks who have the wrong password?

That certainly would cause the modem to not get the GPS from the controller!

Don,

What I can say about this is that we get the login and PW from MotoSat for each ATCONTACT customer. We have a client info sheet that MotoSat fills out for every customer we bring into our network. The Login and PW are only later changed if we are instructed to do so by MotoSat.

I guess the only other thing regarding your comment is - How could the controller even open a telnet session with the modem if it does not have the correct login info?

Regards,
J.D.

J.D. - MotoSAT tells you what your modem login and password should be? That is odd, but it doesn't solve the problem I'm talking about.

When a user updates the firmware in a Datastorm controller, a standard step is to issue an "nvclear" command. That command clears all non-volatile RAM. At that point, the controller's iDirect modem password defaults to the one used by Ethersat and other providers.

If the actual password is something different, the controller will cease communication with the modem.

It requires specific telnet commands (which are non-obvious, and not in the help menu) to change the password back. Seems like that is clearly a support headache?!?

David, have you tested the password solution yet? I don't want to release it untested.

Don - If you want a second opinion, I have a 5150 with a unique password that I can try it on.
