Hi all. I have not been on this forum for quite a while as I have not been using the Datstorm much and having few problems when I did. Unfortunately, that has changed. I have been trying to use DS since Thursday with major league problems with "uplink" and "uplink que". Sometimes tx error rate is very high and download speeds drop to 200Kbps. Other times (unfortunately rarely) tx error rate is low and speeds got over 1 Mbps. I am on a 7000 running software version 5.8.0.82. I have tried individual computers directly to modem and 3 different routers and problem exists in all configurations. Today I went down, reset the modem, and thought I would never get past tx 9 code. Finally did but speed and error rate is terrible.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am working with someone right now on 89W 1170 and the download speeds are just about as you describe (sometime around 300-350 using www.testmy.net ) Uploads seems to be OK but also not consistent. I am going to recommend he change to another satellite so that he will end up on a different gateway assignment. You might want to try the same thing. Where are you located, your skew may be way off as the 89W tables from Hughes are incorrect. You should also go here: http://192.168.0.1/cgi/execAdvCom.bin?Command=450&PrintMsg=Ranging Stats Scan to the very bottom of the page and see what the last rate code is and what your Target EsNo and Final Received EsNo numbers are.

Thanks Bill. I hope to avoid stellite change but that may be necessary. SQ very good at 65 so feel pointing and skew may be pretty close. As a side note, I had to replace the skew motor just before this trip. Rate is 256k turbo code 1/2 -- I never have had a consistent code 4/5 since the dish was installed 6 years ago. Target EsNo is 96 and final received EsNo is 44. Still getting consistent "uplink" and "uplink que" codes.
Any other thoughts? Thanks

SS/SQ has nothing at all to due with a proper skew setting but believe as you like. On 89W you should be seeing a successful 1/2 and 2/3 but likely a failed 4/5. If you are not passing 2/3 you have a separate issue that needs to be addressed. The rate codes you list indicate that your antenna is not properly pointed (as I expected in a previous post) or you have a dying TX which needs to be replaced. The Target and Final EsNo numbers should be very close and not 1/2 of the expected value. If the last rate code listed on the page you were looking at was the 1/2 then you have a really serious issue with either skew or your hardware.

How do I get correct tables for 89? Bill, in my ignorance I obviously incorrectly assumed that skew affected SS/SQ. The TX is really not all that old so hope I don't have to replace that. In another week or so I will be where I have an extra TX stored and I can try that.
Again, I would really appreciate it if you could point me in the right direction to acquire and install appropriate pointing tables for 89.
BTW I am currently in NW Kansas heading for summer spot in southern Colorado where I will be for several weeks.

There is no table to install, Hughes just has it wrong for the 89W satellite which means the Datastorm will not point as well as it could. The farther East you travel the farther off the skew will be. This will not prevent you from getting on line in most cases but seeing that you can only pass the 1/2 rate code indicates that their is an issue with your system. Maybe it's the skew but more likely it's an issue with your TX/LNB. To get a passing ACP on 89/1170 here in IN a few minutes ago I had to adjust the skew by almost 5 degrees (to the left) and move the azimuth just a bit (to the right).
