We have some friends who are trying to network a new HP machine running Win 7 Home to an older box running Win XP Home.

Their main goal is to network a printer that is physically connected to the Win 7 machine.

The tech is saying that these two versions of Windows can't be networked!

Is this so?

Thanks,

Jim

I've had some similar challenges trying to share resources between XP and Vista, so while I have to believe it is "possible" I'd never assume it was EASY!

Did a quick "google" and found this article that claims to have the solution but I have not tried it. Another article that might help...

My home network has the printer connected to a Win7 desktop. I wirelessly network through my Linksys router with all my computers, including one that is still XP based. No problems at all to send stuff to the printer from any of the computers, however I use the printer drivers on each individual computer, appropriate for that operating system, and I don't have a wireless printer.

I have XP, W7, Unix and a printer networked together. I have learned that the LAN has little to do with what's on it. Have I missed the point of this thread?

[Embarrassed]

They are not looking to network a printer. They want to network a computer that has a printer.

No, not at all.

Installed Tech V 2.0, problem solved.

XP machine needed network driver(s) update.
