The Datastorm D2 Controller and Direcway DW6000 modem

One of the major reasons for moving to a D2/6000 setup is for ease of networking. Networking can only be accomplished with the addition of at least one more piece of equipment - a switch, a hub, or a router. This page discusses networking with a 6000 on a Dynamic IP account. If your modem is on a static account, see Part 2, Static Networking. Note that all 6000 modems are dynamic until commissioning is completed, at which point they will switch to static if that is the account type. In that scenario you need to follow this procedure first, then follow the connections outlined in the static article. The diagram below illustrates one example of the configuration of a switch-based D2/6000 network. The switch in this case is actually part of a wireless router, but a standalone switch with or without a wireless access point attached could be used instead. The IP addresses are examples of what you can expect. Some specifics are important - the router WAN port must not be used, and LAN-side DHCP assignment from the router must be turned off.The dynamic 6000 is a DHCP server, and will hand out addresses in the 192.168.0.x range. ![]() | |
