My Hughes 7000 series modem and D3 controller are not quite 1 year old. The Motosat is about 7 years old.
We are near Titusville, FL, for a rally. Our Direway satellite os 84W. I have been having the following problem ever since we got here:
When I first arrived a few days ago in early afternoon, I could not get a good enough signal for the system to work - Quality was 29 but signal strength was around 700. Later in the evening, it started to work. The next morning about 9AM, it quit working again. After dinner, it was working fine. Same thing today - it quit about 9:30 or so and would not get signal quality about 30 until we got back from dinner about 7:30 (left at 4:30 and it was not working).
HOWEVER, during the day, my signal quality suddenly jumped to 83 for a microsecond. I tried jiggling the coax, tapping on the modem and D3, but I could not make it repeat on command....although I saw the signal quality suddenly shoot up again (I wasn't doing anything) for a microsecond. Both times, the blue signal level did not change.
QUESTION - what is going on here? Why does it work fine at night? Other than being a bit cooler inside and outside, nothing has changed that I am aware of. I ASSUME that nothing is wrong at the antenna since only the signal quality, not the strength changes.
HELP!!!

Bob, You are going to need to get in touch with Hughes or your VAR (find out what satellite you are on as I don't think there is an 84W) and get them involved. There is another thread on this forum about service acting the same way yours does and it finally just fixed itself. It's highly unlikely that it is antenna related since it works fine all night.

Try a re-commission. After completed then double check the satellite assignment parameters in the modem to see if they match the D3.

Have you checked to see if there is any moisture in the lens out on the mount. I know it has been warm during the day in Florida and it could be the condensation on the lens in the heat of day that goes away in the cooler evenings.

I had the same problem when arriving in Pensacola last October. It was moisture on the inside of the lens. Drilled a small hole in the bottom and used a cotton swab to clean it off, then heated the whole buc with a hair dryer set on low to dry it out and re-sealed the hole. No problems since then.

From my personal experiences, a Fuzz Buster nearby will result in the signal bouncing from normal to less than 30 constantly. Some other forms of radar interference may result in totally over powering the signal resulting in a consistent low signal strength but at least my experience with radar detectors is the bouncing signal strength and the total loss of ability to use the system.

Bob, Deja Vu! I was the other post having the same problem. http://www.datastormusers.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/ubb/get_topic/f/4/t/001160.html To make a long, long story shorter, Motosat determined using a Telnet Session that my modem was the problem. I should get my new modem tomorrow and I will let you know if, in deed, that was the problem. My situation was exactly like yours for a week and then stopped working altogether.

Ok, I got the 7000S modem and hooked it, no change. Back on a 3 way call with Mobile Satellite and Motosat tech departments we tried to narrow down the issue. I ran a cable directly from the LNB to the modem, no change, did a few other cable connect combinations, no change. Motosat suggested that the LNB is bad. So I should be getting another one next week. So the saga of "Signal Lost Each Day" continues.
