I recently pulled out a Sony A65 satellite receiver and replaced it with a Direct TV R15 DVR. Just learned my KVH LF will not work with the R15 on an in motion basis, even if I upgrade with a DVB upgrade kit. (my unit doesn't have the right cables)

Would like to know if anyone is using the R15 receiver with an in-motion antenna and if so, what they are using.

Appreciate your time.

I am not sure if they are the same, but I use an R-10 with the Winegard Roadtrip in-motion and it works just fine. The Trac-King should work as well it does not require a receiver of any kind to lock on. I thought the new KVH's were receiver independent as well but I will have to leave that to Ashley to answer.

Thanks Bill - I'll stay tuned to see what others can provide. I am not familar with the Winegard in-motion. I just ordered a Winegard portable dish to use with my system when we do park in the shaded areas where reception traditional hasn't worked too well with my KVH LF.

Thanks again

Hi Corky,

Is your KVH System an LF or LM? Just confirming.
We have had numerous customers lately either had an older Sony/Hughes/RCA receiver (that went dead) connected to a data port on the KVH LM/LF and if it is an LF, you can get a DVB upgrade kit which depending on how old your actual unit is will depend on if it will work.
Call KVH and give them your Model and Serial # and they will tell you what you need.
Tell them that you had to replace your receiver with a R15

Hope this helps

Hi Ashley -

I have an LF model that has a serial number below the min for the DVB upgrade. I believe I am hosed.

Evaluating now whether to ditch the R15, go back to old receiver and get something else to record from the satellite to harddisk.

Thanks for your help, really appreciate it.

We have the R-15 and use it with the S2 KVH. The sat has to be located manual by repeatedly pressing the sat button. And no it will not track in motion, only operate when we are parked. We seldom need in motion capability, but on the rare cases we do, we simply sitch out the R-15 and plug back in the old RCA and the data cable.
