Since the Nomad does not have any form of internet or other 2-way communications available to it there is no possibility of it being updated without some kind of user intervention. MotoSAT has an update module that they can send you for a nearly automatic update or you can get the special connection cable and use your computer to update the Nomad. I HIGHLY recommend the update module route but it can take a bit of time to get one when a critical update becomes necessary.

DonB, I'm using DirecTV, so would your post only refer to the DISH service? Is my DirecTV system finding the DISH 110? Tonight I will be in Lenoir, NC I'll try it again. if I still have problems, I'll call motosat and have the module sent ahead to Charleston where I will be thurs/friday. Dan

You'll probably have to plan further ahead than that. Unless you pay extra, Motosat ships UPS ground, which is 4 days from Utah to NC/SC. And last I knew, they were a couple weeks backordered on the module.

Dan, Dish customers *have* to find 110, so all of them are affected, all of the time.
DirecTV customers only *have* to find 101 (for single head) or 101/119 (for 3 or 5 head). It always finds 101 first, then 119.
The problem for DTV customers occurs when the dish, by luck of the draw and elevation, happens to hit 110 before hitting 101. That screws up the search in an unrecoverable way.
The Nomad has a builtin satellite table, just like the D3 does. It "knows" about a lot of satellites besides just 101/110/119, and the signal uses for a particular satellite could come from any provider. The fact that the signal they use on 110 comes from Dish is not of consequence. The fact that Dish changed the signal is the problem.
There have also been recent changes to the table for satellites 91 and 148. Hitting one of those with old firmware can cause the dish to search unreliably, but 110 is the biggest problem.

Our SL-5 is acting up screwy same as the others. I called MotoSat today and talked to a really nice guy, Nick.
He is shipping the update to us today UPS Red along with the special cable that we decided to go ahead and purchase for future updates.
We should have the update delivered to us by tomorrow late and we'll be on the air again!
Tonight we will content ourselves with listening to the World Series on radio.
Great service!

Now in Charleston, but locked on in 5 min just fine, the only place it got messed up finding the 110 first was VA. and no amount of resetting would help ie testdish. In any event, Brett at Motosat is sending a module to FL, should be there by monday he said. He also said that DISH (or maybe DTV) did something to their transponders to cause this. I have to admit I wonder why DirecTV/DISH do not advise Motosat and Winegard ahead of time, after all they are the same customers! Dan

Alot of it has to do with the fact that Dish and DIRECTVS main customer base is in a stick house with a dish stuck to the side of the house. The mobile market is the smallest percentage of all there customer base. Plus the contacts at the companys Dish and D* cant keep up with the changes themselves..they are just rolling with the punches as technology changes.

The Module arrived the next day. Followed the instructions and the antennae is working perfectly again. The module is on its way back to SLC. It is amazing to me how quickly these MotoSat guys can keep up with the changes!
I am now the proud owner of a proprietary cable. I will learn how to use it under adult supervision and try to do future upgrades the quicker way. But thanks for the module this time.
By the way, is there any list that I can put myself on to be notified of future upgrades as they become available?
Again, thanks for all the help.

Motosat employs a brilliant, pasty little fellow that sits in a basement room with no windows, lit only by the glow of his laptop display, who drinks case after case of Jolt cola, writing lines of code, at a moment's notice, every time the providers make some change to the satellites.

my point was, why don't the two sat providers give Motosat and Winegard a heads up two weeks to a months notice so their new software coincides with the sat changes, and then no one is without tv and rushing at the last minute? Just got my REV 34 today, updated, and mailing it back shortly. Dan

In a prefect world the sat owner would do that or even care. An interesting point is that these satellite changes do not seem to affect the Winegard dish.

My thinking was the sat owner DISH/DirecTV's cusotmer's are the SAME customers as Moto's and Winegards....therefore they should work together for the customers care? Dan

Never going to happen! No one knows of, or cares about, how a change might effect the mobile customer. All decisions are based on what is right for the business and how that relates to the fixed home user.
