When I look at the entire listing of members my #3007 shows correctly, but when you click on my number to see my location I appear on the map as #3703...

Is this a glitch that can be repaired?

You can repair it simply by resubmitting.

Here's the deal: Member 3703 placed themselves on the map at exactly (to 5 decimal places) the spot you are on at 4:55 pm (server time) on October 18th. If you had looked at the map prior to that time (about 2 hours ago) you would have seen them listed below your name. It is a crapshoot which number overlays the other. At 4:55, their 10-day listing expired, so they aren't shown below. If you resubmit, which will rebuild the map, they will be gone completely.

The maps will also, if nothing goes wrong, rebuild themselves in the middle of the night precisely because of this sort of thing.

DARN!!

That 3703 popped up again, I've resubmitted and fixed it again.

3703 doesn't even show in the long list of numbers as being anywhere, but it sure keeps showing up where I am.

I understand your explanation Don, the computer must like 3703 better!

I just happened to see something similar, and perhaps a guess on it?

I clicked on one of the users posts in the forum to see where they were now. This was user 1487. When you clicked on the map with user=1487, you saw right next to them user 2399. However, if you change the URL to point at user=2399, they were somewhere completely different.

It seems that they were still coming up on the map which would have only showed 1487 (but where they might have been the day prior?) It seems that 2399 has already moved from Van Horn to Tucson AZ?

Similar? There's an icon, but no entry at the bottom of the page.

When someone moves, the maps rebuild the top three levels where they are, and where they've been. It does not, however, rebuild other users where they might have shown up. All users that are active are rebuilt every night at 1 am PST. It takes about 90 minutes to do all of them. That will typically take care of the "artifact" icons.

Ray, you are right we (2399) were in Van Horn last night and in Tucson tonight.
Al and Sue (1487) are running a day behind us.

Oohhh! Maybe finally just "got" it. When you indicate the server rebuilds the set of maps, do you mean there is a map set for each user? So, in the case specified above, when looking specifically for user 2399 I got the correct info, but when looking at 1487 their map set had not been rebuilt to remove 2399?

I had (perhaps incorrectly) assumed the map sets were based upon geographical position, and were not "user" oriented. I'm thinking now that the maps are user oriented, and that's why there are differences?

Yes, I think you pretty much have it.

Top three are geographical maps. Those change whenever someone moves into, within, or out of them.

Bottom 4, User1/2/3/4, are individually stored for each member.

The top 3 exist for the whole earth, whether a member is there or not. The others only exist for an "active" member, meaning one that has updated in the past 10 days.

Don, here is a weird problem. When my friend clicks on the Google Earth link on the map, as he zooms closer in, the map displays large black areas. This is as if there are map segments missing. However, if other people look at the same spot, the Google map segments ARE displayed. Something must be wrong at his computer. He as uninstalled and reinstalled Google Earth, but with the same results. Have you seen this before?

I have not. Are they always the same spots? It could be timing out on some segments, I suppose.

My Google Earth did the same thing when I upgraded to the latest version. Had to find older version 3 to get it to work correctly again. The version 4 is still in beta, read where they were having trouble with drivers on some video cards.
