Did a search on 'download manager' a while ago with defaults checked and it must have taken five or ten minutes to return 34 hits.

If you are looking for a good download manager give Free Download Manager a try. http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/download.htm I just searched for that term and received a nearly instant response from Google with FDM at the top of the list.

Yes - I meant a forum search, I should have been more explicit. Usually a forum search would only take a minute or so, five/ten minutes seemed way out there.

The only answer to the slow search is a complete forum upgrade. Something I may tackle in the future. It is not minor, but could be worth the effort. I'm running their current stuff on one of my other sites (www.lostcoastcachers.com) and I do like it.
