Hi everyone. I have a fixed dish hughes system at my home that is mounted on a porch. As the weather gets cold the porch moves a bit and throws my signal off. I went up this morning with my bird dog and couldnt get the meter to lock on amc9 either horizonal or vertical even though my computer screen showed it was locked with a signal of 53. I ended up scraping the bird dog and using the computer screen to align it. I was wondering what might be wrong with the bird dog. It is a couple of years old and has been used maybe 5 times. any suggestions? Oh, I also brought the meter in and plugged it into the coax inside the house before the modem after I aligned the signal and it did not show locked signal on the bird dog...

Your Birdog probably needs an update. For the same reason Motosat D3s & Nomads sometimes need updates... birdog.tv has a customizable satellite file tool for doing updates.

Perfect ten had a programing problem on AMC9/83. They rewrote the SW and it now works on most Birdogs. I still have a meter that "finds the sat momentaraly and then looses it." I can't point that way. I am working with Perfict ten on the problem.

My BirDog won't work on the 127W, nothing on either 127H or 127V, updated from Perfect 10 2/16, and now it just flashes found. I've moved to using the laptop and Hughes Net for final alignment! So much for the $400. wonderful tool that is now gathering dust!

Have you tried Don's PC-OPI program in the articles section of this forum? It won't make your birdog work, it will just make you realize how unnecessary it really is.

Bill, the Birdog is unnecessary like an automatic pointing dish is unnecessary. It is a huge convenience and timesaver to be able to set the dish up and have it pointed perfectly before you ever connect the modem to it.
The PC-OPI makes an OPI unnecessary, but personally, I like redundancy in my tool bag. That said, the PC-OPI is the first tool I always recommend to Hughes tripod users.

Linda and I just deployed from the Hurlburt area of Florida to beautiful downtown Port Richey. I soon discovered that my Birdog was failing to read the data stream from 99w (G16). On the previous deployment, in December, the Dog did just fine. I discovered, through updating the Dog's data base, that the data had indeed been changed, adding a stream for .98 sized antennas and another for the .74's. Once I updated the device, all was well. I had not updated my Dog in over a year and a half.
For what its worth, since I upgraded from the 6000 to the 7000s, I have had virtually no problems of any kind, and my speeds are wonderful.
