We have be on vacation shutdown for about four months. When I try to get back on,it gets weird! I have the dish well pointed using a birdog. When I start the modem, I get the lan light and then the receive light. When I look at the modem, the signal may be either 26 (no lock) or 61, locked then it suddenly reverts to 15 and claims there is no signal. When I look at the system info, I'm commissioned, on xponder 1330, sym rate of 30, H,H pol. I tried changing the parms in the reg installer to the old values of 1310, same sr, V,H pol. No luck! In frustration, I hauled out the old 6000 and watched it come up, cross pol, and send and receive with no problem (xmission error rate of about 5 percent). Of course it wouldn't connect to the NOC. I'm beginning to think that I have a bad 7000. Any ideas??

I suspect that while you were no using the modem that Hughes changed some of your modem parameters. Get the antenna pointed and then use the Registration-Installer routine to select a transponder and get a good signal there. Complete the registration including ACP and go through to completion. You may or may not be on the same transponder that you were on but that's OK. Once you have completed the registration, the information in the modem will be correct and you should be on-line.

Thanks for the help, gang. I haven't exausted everything yet as I got sidetracked on a serious plumbing problem! Finished it so will be back on this problem shortly. Barb, thanks for the offer! I'll let yo know if I need the file.

OK, I passed ACP but still couldn't get on. I had passed on 1270 but after the reset, It reverted to 1330 and got hung up on tx9 and looked like it finally gave up, reverting to rcv SS 15. What do I do now gang? Lee
Does the 1330 stay or does it change after several minutes?

The latest: First, Don it does stay on 1330 once it gets there.
I tried to go through registration on 1390 as I was able to pass acp easily there. When I get to "Select Reg Server" and I click next, I does everthing ok until it tells me to wait and I do - for 15 minutes!! When I exit and go to the home page I'm told that registration is incomplete but also, it says under Site ID that i'm not comissioned!! Is this because I haven't completed registration or is this a different problem? MUCH frustration here!

The modem will do that if you start but do not complete the registration. I'm not sure at what point in the registration process it happens.

It seems that after I get down to the end of registration that I'm switched to 1330 and get hung up on "Adjusting Transmitter Timing" TX9. This sequence happened numerous times! I'm no microwave engineer, but I don't think that this hardware (.74 M dish)can do the H,H pol that 1330 sets! Am I wrong?

I suggest pointing to a different satellite and running the registration installer. Try 89W 1170 V/H 30. Once you can finish the re-registration then point back to your 117W.

Don, please educate me. There is a rotator section in the waveguide that puts receive and transmit at right angles. How can they be in the same plane? Can I remove that section to put them in the same plane? Lee

Not quite right. There is a rotator section that changes the transmit polarity relative to the dish. The LNB(s) is(are) dual-ported off the waveguide before it gets to that rotation shim.
There are a pair of LNBs, one Horizontal and one Vertical, and the switching occurs by a change of voltage up the receive line.

Don, Can't the TX side be switched to "V" by replacing the "H" shim with a "V" shim?

DonB, got it! Didn't know that there were two LNB's. So where does that leave me with My orignal problem? I'll try Don-Oregon's suggestion tomorrow and see what happens. Any other ideas?
