Have I discovered an undocumented Datastorm Administrator feature??
I had been using my old unreliable laptop to raise and find sat with the 'old' D1 controller.
When the old laptop pretty much died, I was forced to buy a new laptop...it has a 64 bit version of Vista installed and after much frustration found I could not 'downgrade' to XP Pro.
The Direcway software that has in the past been a requirement, would not install as it isn't compatible with the 64 bit Vista.
I decided to try the data storm administrator by itself....but it had no values for the Sat pointing...
to my surprise, under 'configure server' where you normally configure COM port and Azimuth Window, there is now a field 'Satellite Longitude' to input the Sat you want to find....
I checked on old laptop....that field is not there.
Works perfectly....adds to the life of the D1 if that is what you are using...
If I'm the only one still using the 'old' D1...guess this info is falling on deaf ears...

That feature showed up (if I recall properly) if there was no modem attached or unseen so that the D1 could operate the antenna in a mode similar to the D3 Generic mode. If you are not the only one still using the D1, with a 7000(s) modem you certainly are among a very elite group. I know there are still some folks using the D1/4000 combo but they are almost as rare.

Makes no sense that it would work properly. The D1, like the D2, lacks a DVB receiver, so while it could calculate where to point it could not possibly peak up on the satellite without input from the modem.

Don You're right of course. 'Works perfectly'.... for me ...
I first run DS Administrator, then Lat/Lon Helper to set the Long/Lat, then I watch the DW7000 Antenna Pointing function. When DS Admin gets close to and finds the signal, I stop the search....usually with the best signal available.
This works VERY well for me and it is quick. I found that even with the Direcway software installed (old laptop), I used this method as the dish would dance around up there for a long time.
Its just my way....as Bill has pointed out...I am the 'daffycanuck'

Got a question about DS Admin. The old laptop that WAS hosting my connection died the other day. Got a new netbook and installed Direcway and DataStorm software. Direcway seems to be working OK. DataStorm WILL NOT allow me to progress to registration. It pops a message that it cannot complete because "the other program is active". Even when I have nothing else running. Any ideas?

The best idea I can give you is to update your hardware to a D2/D3/D4 and a 7000 or 7000S modem. It's amazing that your 4000 is even still working! It's been nearly 7 years since I had to play with the computer based Hughes software and I really don't even remember how it worked.

I won't even try ! You can buy a used D3 and 7000s modem for less than the labor to get yours running.I tossed all D1 software and good riddance.

Well, thanks for the comments. About what I was thinking anyway. After playing with it for a couple of weeks the 4000 finally died and we are using an aircard for the time being. If we find that isn't good enough, will probably be contacting one of you about new equipment.
