You should be aware that a .98 may not work with your modems or you may have to modify the LNB to get it to work properly (I am not sure which). The .98 works differently than the .74 and has restrictions on the V/H or H/H type of transmission. Be sure you find out how your current modem is setup and that you will be able to properly utilize a .98 before you buy.

Thanks for the quick response Bill.I am not sure about my VH or HH type transmission. It is late model 6000 7/05 installation. Sounds like I need to hook up with qualified installer. Do you have a .98 dish we could set up? I can possibly meet you on the way down from Victoria BC

Sorry, we don't do any kind of fixed/tripod work so can't help you with the dish. I think Don Marr here in Eugene may do some fixed work so he might be able to help. You can find your satellite assignment information at http://192.168.0.1 click on the System Information button.

The current production .98 meter dishes (past two years) use identical BUC/LNB assemblies to those used on the .74, so no issues with H/H on those. Good idea to stay away from old used ones that use a rotating head.

I frequently use a new-style .98M dish with 2W BUC to commission DW7000s prior to doing a Datastorm installation. I just select 1W txmr when going thru the set-up pages. The modem works just fine on a .98M with 2W BUC even tho the account is configured for 1W, with bandwidth to match.
Keep in mind that if your .74M dish is out of footprint range, the .98M may get you a bit further on the fring, but it isn't going to get a signal where there is no adequate signal to be had. Can't tell you how many miles of extra range you might get, but not sure if it would be worth lugging around a big-ol 98M unit for.
But if you can find a good deal on a used, new-style .98M dish, and have plenty of storage space, and know how to set one up, why not?
