We seem to be in need of a cover for our feedhorn. After all these years, it has started collecting water condensation inside.... We were told we can't buy just the lens, that we should either: drill a hole in it, or buy a replacement part which includes not only the feedhorn, but the lnb, transmitter, etc. for $552.50....

Any suggestions?

Don't drill it out. Take it apart with a 3mm ball head allen wrench. Then let it dry out well indoors. Reassemble it with some new same-size o-rings from the hardware store. Use a little dieletric grease to keep the o-rings in the grooves while you reassemble. If you do this and reseal it well, it should provide you many more years of service.

If I may add to Scotts reply. Include in your resealing it well to wipe a layer or bead of clear silicone sealant over the faying surfaces...that is the split and also put a bead of sealant around the outside edge of the lens. Further protection can be gained by covering the horn with a clear one gallon freezer bag and tieing it in place with zip ties.

thanks for all responses, we are going to have to try to take it apart I guess, it really cuts down on most surfing, especially secure sites.... and we just upgraded to the "new" 7000/D-3 system.

wouldn't the plastic bag over the horn interfere, or would that just be for when not in use? Which is pretty much never!

Plastic bag won't interfere. In some cases, you can actually beam right thru stryofoam, circus tents, shade cloth, and other solids that seem to be transparent to a Datastorm's radio frequency.
