Id trying to ascertain why the software locks in on a signal far weaker than it normally passes by earlier on in the search process?
Im new to the dish ownership myself but am trying to figure is there a tweak or 2 I can alter to make it lock on lets say the 1034 strength signal rather than the 730 when it accepts this signal and locks in its final test.

Various possibilities, based on what you have told us. First, the numbers you are talking (1034 and 730) would have to come from the lower "Signal Strength" box, rather than the upper "Signal Quality" box. That bottom number is total radiation, and is a relative number - if you ever did lock on a value higher than 750 that would be "remembered" and would become the new 750, which is what is used as the benchmark number.
You can get a high signal strength from all sorts of sources, including the sun and other satellites. Only signal quality matters.
Beyond that, the dish will not stop on any signal that is outside the azimuth window, elevation window, or signal threshold; the latter again is SQ, not SS.

If your dish is like mine, you don't want to - that 1000+ is probably the wrong satellite!
The signal strength in the DataStorm software is basically just a measurement of how much EM energy the dish is receiving. Since there are lots of satellites up there, some not far from the ones we're using, it will typically "have a look" at any strong signal it sees. But then it figures out it's not the right signal and moves on, until it finds the correct satellite.
