I need help or instructions. Our datastorm has not been used since mid last May for a variety of reasons. We have been using the modem continuously at home with a fixed dish setup. The last time anyone monkeyed with our setup was a few years back at Quartzite when Bill Adams updated the firmware/software and we have not had any problems since between our house and the datastorm in the motorhome.
Pretty sure my problem is disuse of the D3 for several months but the satellite configurations have always mystified me.
I follow directions fairly well so maybe someone can lead me down the correct path.
I have a DW 7000 modem with a D3 originally installed in 2006.
When I cue up the D3 it begins searching and appears to lock onto the correct satellite and begins the incremental motions to fine tune its connection just like always. The difference is that it never makes a final connection and after a bit it stores itself automatically. For the moment I am getting along fine with a Verizon and ATT datacard in a cradlepoint modem but believe I will need motosat at Quartzite.
Thanks for any help..tim

Just to make sure I was not crying wolf tried again today North of Phoenix in Usery Regional Park. Clear skies, GPS was found, search found 89W but would not lock. The D3 is version 3.9.2 and the DW7000 is version 5.8.0.82 installed 4/27/10. As further information modem was working continuously with fixed dish from home. Last use with Datastorm was May of 2011. Thanks for any help...tim

The sat table might help and should be tried first, but you may need to get the D3 updated to 3.9.6T. We will be in QZ on the 19th for a week or so if you need some on site help. Don Bradner is there now and my be able to help if you want to take your D3 to him.

Thanks Bill..OK..I did download file and it opened as an Excel file but not sure what to do next. When the MotoSat locked on to a satellite it was the 89W but somewhere it just couldn't finish locking in.

On the D3 page (192.168.1.250 or 192.168.0.250) click Import/Export on the bottom left hand side
On the bottom line for Sat Table click browse
Locate the sat table that you downloaded from the Motosat site and hit open
Then click IMPORT
This will take about 5-10 seconds and kick you back to the system status page.
Reboot the D3 by turning the power off for 1 min then back on.
Go to the D3 system status page and hit search.

Partial Success. I was able to successfully install new firmware version 3.9.6T recommended by bill, nvclear and ucbupdate. Updated new sat tables. Completed the calibration step. After resetting to 89W and correcting the remainder of config settings I restated and performed search function. Alas no satellite found. We are setting at QZite with clear skies. I did notice that in the SAT tables there are 5 different 89W sat's. One is 89W V and the others are 89W H. I believe the search has keyed in on 89W V but only guessing. Are there other steps I might have missed?

OK..problem solved. Although I previously marked cables inbound and outbound my markings were reversed. Its a mystery that has no solution but I switched cables and voila all is working. I now have newest hardware and downloaded DSAdmin as well. Embarrassing but working. Now my problem is trying to get DSLocator to work on Windows 7 with either IE or Firefox. Works OK with XP but not W7.

When you install in W7 uncheck the box to always ask before opening file. And if a box pops up that says not installed properly, check that it was. Then you may need to find the folder and make a desk top short cut to the .exe.
Dinosaur XP has a lot of uses to run old programs that will not run in W7. I run several on my W7 Ultimate 64-bit.
