I use my Datastorm for DirecTV only.

So I have a controller but no modem.

I have the controller connected to an MBR1000 LAN port with a normal patch cable.

This has worked many times in the past.

Using Don's admin app I see "Connecting" (on 192.168.1.250) but repeated fails.

Any idea of what might be wrong?

best, paul

It's likely that the router or D3 is locked up. Try power cycling the whole setup and then one at a time (D3 last). If that does not work you may need to reset or replace the router. If you still have your old Linksys sitting around you can put that in the loop to see if you can connect again.
I have seen a couple of cases where none of this worked and an nvclear routine has to be run on the D3. If you have to do an nvclear it would also be a good time to update the firmware to 3.9.6T if you have not done so already. Even though you don't need the internet, it will make the search routine faster and more accurate. You would also have to reinstall the current sat table if you do perform the nvclear routine.

Oh, the router works fine, wired and wireless.

How would I do an nvclear?

How are you doing, Bill?

Where are you? We are In El Centro until May 18.

The router may not be working fine. It may or may not be but the function required to make the connection to the D3 could be at issue. You would need to trouble shoot that by either power cycling, resetting or replacing the unit.
I am doing great, thanks. Our new job with Winegard is going better than we had expected and look forward to working with them for a long time. We just drove my El Centro a week or 2 back as we left our of Yuma for San Diego. We are now in Ontario, CA.

Hmmmmm....

For some time I've used the router wired (not wireless) connection for my main laptop to connect to the Internet.

What else besides tcp/ip would the D3 need?

Why? You have not talked about anything that would indicate that you have any kind of an issue with your D3. Oops, sorry, I said I would stand down.

Well, Bill, there is that little problem that my D3 no longer does its job.

The router doesn't appear to be the problem because I'm using it now, via patch cable, from my laptop to the router to get to the Internet.

I've tried different patch cables from the router to the D3 and the D3 still doesn't work.

Power cycling the D3 several times and the D3 still doesn't work.

An nvclear is supposed to help but no one has told me how I might do this to a D3 that doesn't appear to want to communicate.

That's why I think there's an issue with my D3.

Am I missing something?

best, paul

"Why? You have not talked about anything that would indicate that you have any kind of an issue with your D3."

If that's how you feel about it, Bill, then let's swap D3's.

I'll even pay you $100 for shipping and handling.

You might recall you sold me the D3 I have, along with a big circular dish...

best, paul

I'm good, thanks. I haven't had a D3 in many, many years. In any case, you are not going to get much help here if you don't listen to the suggestions from others. I suggest where a problem might be and you say "no, that's not it". Pretty hard to go anywhere from there.
I remember you well and I hope you are doing great.

Paul, is there some reason you are resisting power-cycling the router? Getting to the internet and not being able to get to a local address is a common problem that is almost always the router, as Bill knows. When it isn't the router, it is next most often a cable. It is least often the controller.

Let's see, one suggestion I did not follow is I did not replace my router. The reason: It works fine for tcp/ip for computers. Is there some other protocol a D3 uses? If so, what is it?

The only other suggestion I did not follow is to do an nvclear. I would do this and asked how to do it and received no reply.

Did I ignore any others?

We are doing great. El Centro is such a healthy environment for the both of us and we will miss it when we leave this week.

best, paul

The suggestion that was made was to power-cycle the router. Every time it is/was suggested you just said it worked fine. If you ever did power-cycle it we don't know about it.

We have seen (and I have personally experienced many times) routers that stop passing packets on the local LAN (which are NOT routed, just switched) while the WAN continues to work fine. Off/on is not hard to do, although there is a small possibility of a bad router. It usually is just a locked up switch.

The nvclear instructions are in the reference section here. I wouldn't do it until the router was eliminated as a possible cause, however.
