I've been having trouble on both Mac's and PC's with accessing Apple's iTunes Store. I can get in, but secure transmissions are blocked on the PC (it just hangs once I've contacted the store and the iTunes network diagnostics say that the secure access to the iTunes store is disallowed. I follow their advice regarding settings to no avail.) and on the Mac it is VERY intermittent that I can communicate. I have looked for an iTunes issues, but because it is happening on all computers and even an earlier version of iTunes, I was suspecting something with DirectWay...

Newt, I got on Janet's computer and I was able to go into the store and download a free holiday song. Maybe that doesn't require the secure access but it shows me logged into my account and it showed that I had "bought" the song. Is there something specific I can try to see if it works here?

I just did what you did (XPSp2) and as normal (recently at least), I get the storefront (home) page, then when I click on a free song as you did I get "accessing itunes store" and it just hangs, often having to abort itunes from the system.
This time, I ran the diagnostics and it ran with "green" indicators for all sections.
So, I'm still stumped.

Any idea what the Macintosh OSX network settings for Web Proxy (HTTP)Server should be. It was 198.168.0.1 for port 83. I blanked it out and nothing seemed to change.
I'm trying to tweak settings to see if the problems I'm having on the Mac (on Safari and iTunes) are related to network settings. (Firefox works OK)

Newt, Only if you are still using 4000 modems would you be using any proxy setting. The 6000 higher modems do no need any browser proxy settings but the 6000 and higher modems proxy cannot be turned of easily. The 4000 does use 192.168.0.1 port 83 (or 85) and the 6000/7000's use port 87.

Newt, Just had the same problem on one of my computers but not on another both are using HughesNet. I found the problem was a setting in IE. In "Internet Options" > Advanced check that there are checks next to use SSL 3.0 and use TLS 1.0. On the one with the problem I found that use TLS 1.0 was not checked. Once I did this everything started working. Hope this helps

Bill ITDave's suggestion to Newt solved my problem of not being able to access Whitelakebeacon.com that you tried to help me with several weeks ago. TLS 1.0 was not checked in "Internet Options> Advanced." I checked it and all is well. I was wondering if this answer could be added to my thread for all to see this solution?
