I did disable the wireless and kept network connections up to watch the ethernet connection. But I again can't read, I hardwired it to the D3, bypassing the router.
I was so sure I did it right and still messed up, I'll go try again. I did't think I used to make this many mistakes as testing was my job for the last 8 years of my programming life and I thought I used to pay good attention, obviously not.
Thank you again for continuing to try to help me.

Michael, As I mentioned in the earlier post, you CANNOT by-pass the router you need to connect the D3 and your computer to the LAN ports to create a switch. The only way you could go direct from your computer to the D3 is with a special cross-over cable.

I also must be tired. I am in the house and the instant that I connect the ethernet cable to the laptop from the router, I see my broadcom controller under network connections. But, connecting it to the router in the trailer, I can't see the connection. I did earlier when connected directly to the D3, but now for some reason, it just says network cable unplugged. I don't understand why I can't see the Broadcom controller in the trailer and do not know how to get it to show up. But without my ethernet connection, I can't even try to get to the D3.
I checked the connections at each end. I am in lan port 3 and the D3 is in 2.
If it is not obvious, I was an IBM person for 30 years, I never worked with PC networks except to cause problems.

So, with the Broadcom controller showing even after a reboot with the ethernet cable disconnected, I brought it back down to the trailer where I am now. But the Broadcom was disabled. So, I did an enable and it fails. Unplugged the ethernet cable and tried again, fails. Changed the ethernet connection to the 192.168.0.2, saved the settings and it still fails upon enable.
Brought up this wireless connection to post this message and my ethernet port went away under network connections.

And yet, once I come back to the house and plug in the ethernet connection, my broadcom connection is instantly back. I enable wireless here in the house and I keep the connection.
I understand if you don't want to get in any further as I'm also getting frustrated, which means it is time for me to stop as I learned over the years I make more mistakes once frustrated.

I wasn't smart enough to think of taking the 25 foot ethernet cable and bringing it to the house and test it, I called and was going to go over this morning and borrow one from my sister. One way or the other, I'll verify the cable. It is just that it was working 2 hours earlier so I figured it was good, but who knows, it is 6 years old and has been tossed around on the top of a shelf as it is seldom used.

Try hooking that cable directly to the modem instead of the D3. If the connection comes to like then the cable is good and the D3 Ethernet connection is dead.

I took a 4 footer down there and set the laptop on a shelf. Connected immediately to the Broadcom card. I was able to set the addresses and was able to telnet to the D3 and enter the nvclear. Said cleared ram. Booting the D3 still gives me 6 lights. Did this 3 times, nvclear and boot and then just powered the D3 a couple of times and then tried booting everything. Each time, 6 lights.
Stupid thing is I brought my 25 foot cable back into the house and it works perfectly and in fact I'm on it now. Had to reset to DHCP here but it works.
Confused, but looks like all of my mistakes has done the D3 in. I sent Tim and Barry an Email showing them this thread and asking that I'd like to get in touch with them sometime this week after they have enjoyed their new years weekend.
Bill and Don, thank you again for putting up with me.
I spoke with the woman that I tested with to wish her a Happy New Year this morning (she is New York). I worked with her for 8-10 years as I did the IBM channel and she was the developer of the firmware on the card. We laughed at all of my problems as she said, I never had these problems a year or so ago or she would have gone mad.
Oh well, thank you again, I'll get in touch with Tim and/or Barry this coming week and see what to do.
Happy New Year to all.
Mike

Mike, If you can access the D3 then you will want to keep things as they are with all the lights lit and see if you can open a browser to 192.168.0.250. If you can you will get the software update screen and you should be able to re-load the software and get yourself back in business again. If it fails, try again. Power off and on and try again, etc. Hopefully one of them will take. Good luck.

This morning, I came down here and connected the 4 foot Ethernet cable and got my Broadcom connection immediately. This is when I did the telnet and nvclear. I noticed that it was still configured for 192.168.0.2. When I got back to the house, I reconfigured it DHCP so that I could talk to the internet.
Now, I am in the trailer again but no matter which cable I use, the 25 footer (which proved okay in the house), or the 4 footer, the Broadcom Ethernet connection doesn’t show up.
This connection also does not show up under device manager. Device manager only shows my 1394, wireless and Bluetooth devices, it won’t show my Ethernet Broadcom connection.
This is where I spent 3 hours confused yesterday around the middle of the day where I posted several posts about my problem.
Do you have any suggestions or help on why my Broadcom connection won’t show up or what to do to get it back? I have also bypassed the router and tried connecting directly to the modem, nada.
I have plugged and unplugged. Powered off the modem and back on. I have gone to the modem, 192.168.1.1. and done a release/renew. I have powered off the power in the trailer, on the power strip connecting the modem powering everying, the D3 alone and the linksys alone, still no Ethernet connection.
I know I’m being a pain, but like before, I just don’t know what to do to get my Ethernet connection back.

Well, I have the D3 back, can't believe it but with all of this expert advice, it is back. Whether I have all the settings correct is yet to be found out. But the D3 lights again look normal.
I took the laptop back to the house, connected the ethernet to a working linksys and immediately got my Broadcom connection. I then put my laptop in hybernate with the cable disconnected to insure the connection would stay in network connections, which it did.
Came back to the trailer, plugged it it and it went connected. Had to boot the modem by holding the buttons as I could not connect. Telnetted and did an nvclear, worked. Then followed Don and Bill's directions to use IE to connect to 192.168.0.250, got to firmware loading page.
all this time, the wireless was disabled, only the ethernet cable active. Ran the software upgrade. Funny to watch, the progress screen fills, then it expands that picture for 5 more minutes while it finishes it's upgrade. The install program boots the D3 for you, I never had to touch the D3. It left me in the proper screen, so I went to configuration, set the address and router gateway and back to Hughesnet, saved settings. I then had to go to the ethernet connection and reset it back to DHCP as the configuration screen had gone away after resetting the IP.
Then I was able to connect via 192.168.1.250 and I think I'm in business.
I can't try the satellite as Motosat thinks I have a tree in the way, so have to move this rig and try again. Tomorrow as today is my mother's birthday.
Bill, Don.
Thank you both very much. This was a nightmare for me and maybe next time, I'll learn to disable the wireless connection.
Mike

I think it is time for another donation, but this time in Bill's name.

Michael, As Joe mentions, the Calibrate Dish is mandatory at this point. You should also have set the correct satellite, transponder and polarity. Also set the Isolation Optimization to Low. I am very glad to hear that you were able to recover from your disaster and that your system is working again. Hopefully, you are also now on 3.9.1 which I believe was the original goal. That was very nice to make a donation to this site in my name. Every donation to this site helps Don constantly improve the user experiences here. Sound like you should have a Happy New Year now!
