Decided on the Top Global 6800 router/USB720 AirCard with outside antenna & amp. The router has been very stable, over all I am very pleased with setup.

Glad it is working well for you Bob. I have been pleased with my Kyocera KR-1 with the Kyocera 650 AirCard and an outside antenna. If I didn't have the DataStorm as my primary internet service, I would have added the amp as well.

If I am in a Rev A service area for Verizon would the setups that you guys are using handle VoIP well? I burn up about 5,000 minutes a month on phones and I am always looking for ways to max usage on my VoIP.
Thanks in advance.

I have tested VOIP (Skype) over my Altell service on our TrekSurf product and it works surprisingly well. My personal opinion is that the day will come when all cell phones will morph to not really be "cell phones" any longer, but rather become VOIP devices working over cellular data networks.

Bob, I have not tried to use VoIP with my AirCard. A concern I have is Verizon's policy of using their connection for VoIP. I have read their policy statement, but still not sure. It appears there is a 5G limit imposed and I would not want to exceed that. Not sure how much a typical VoIP session would use. We will get more information on this subject as more users asks this question and try VoIP/AirCard.

Our F1 DataStorm developed problems yesterday, and in response, we went out and purchased one of the Verizon USB720 to act as backup. Since we have two laptops in use at the same time in the ALFA, was looking for a USB WIFI router to attach both laptops to the internet at the same time.
Do I understand correctly that the KR1 will do that for around $200. It sounds that it is a good solution....is that a true understanding?

Yes, the KR1 will allow you to plug your new 720 aircard in and then share the Internet wirelessly. You will may need to update the firmware in the KR1 to support the U720. Double check the Kyocera website to ensure have the latest firmware. Updating firmware in the KR1 is a similar process to updating a D3.
If you are interested in exploring a slightly more costly but more elegant solution, please contact me off-board and I can make some additional recommendations.

It sounds like I am on the right track. Will keep on trying to find out what is wrong with my DataStorm since I have had it working for over 4 years, would hate to give it up, but I will also keep track of the progress on the USB wireless routers including the KR-1 and add one to my "backup" system. I would think that LinkSys would be interested in getting into the fray....maybe soon.
Only had the verizon Novatel modem for 2 days but it is working great for us.
Appreciate the help fellows.

If your Datastorm is really 4 years old, you likely have the old style UCB mounted between the arms. If that's true you can get an updated UCB for $99 and likely be back in business in no time.

Does the WRT54G3G-ST have provisions for the USB connector setup that my USB720 has?

I purchased the $99 upgrade last November when I upgraded to the D3 and 7000s. I also found some more interesting things out about my F1 mount issues today. Will try to add to my other thread regarding the 3.9.3-1 D3 firmware/-34 error later when we get back to the ALFA tonight....Hopefully it will generate some additonal clues from you old hands.

The WRT54G3G-ST appears to only support a limited number of PC Cards from Option, Novatel and Huawei.
It does not support USB cards.
